The Department of Computer Science in the Whitacre College of Engineering at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, Associate Professor of Practice to begin on September 1st, 2026.

Major/Essential Functions
At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.


Required Qualifications
  • Applicants must have a Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or related fields;
  • Applicants must be able to teach undergraduate and graduate core and elective courses in Computer Science;
  • Applicants must be willing to mentor students in professional and career preparation and contribute to departmental extra-curricular activities.
This position is designated as involving access to critical infrastructure systems and/or research, as defined by Texas Executive Order GA-48. As such, candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. Employees are required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the protection of critical infrastructure. Ongoing employment is dependent upon maintaining eligibility for access and successfully passing periodic security and compliance reviews.


Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
  • Applicants with a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or related fields;
  • Applicants with 5 or more years of teaching or industry experience;
  • Applicants with outreach and program-building experience.
