Primary Purpose of Organization Unit:
Student Health Services is committed to providing affordable, accessible and high-quality health care services to those eligible through health promotion and disease prevention programs. Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide high-quality, student-centered nursing care to the students enrolled at UNC Pembroke while promoting a campus culture of health and well-being. This position integrates clinical care with health education, outreach, and collaboration to empower students to make informed health decisions and thrive academically. In addition to delivering direct patient care, the Licensed Practical Nurse will serve as a nurse educator by coordinating and implementing outreach and wellness programming, delivering educational materials, and collaborating with campus partners. This position requires working evenings and weekends for programming.

Job Description:
Direct Patient Care (60%)
  • Utilize the nursing process-including assessment, planning, intervention, & evaluation-to provide evidence-based care to patients within UNCP Student Health Services.
  • Provide individual patient education to encourage students to actively engage in managing their health and making informed choices.
  • Organize and assist the medical provider during clinic hours and triage patients as necessary.
  • Receive and evaluate health forms for compliance with North Carolina immunization statutes and communicable disease requirements.
  • Act as a liaison between the health care provider and student to promote optimal patient outcomes.
  • Communicate with on-campus and off-campus providers regarding referrals and continuity of care.
  • Maintain clinical documentation and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, and federal/state/local regulations.
  • Make clinical decisions utilizing the Nursing Process, NCBON standards, SHS Standing Orders, and Standard Operating Procedures.


Nurse Educator, Outreach, and Indirect Patient Care (30%)
  • Serve as a nurse educator by delivering educational content and presentations on a variety of health and wellness topics for students, student organizations, classes, and campus partners.
  • Disseminates print, digital, and social media content that supports SHS goals in preventive care and health promotion.
  • Plan and coordinate SHS involvement in outreach initiatives, including but not limited to student orientations, open houses, campus health fairs, and residence hall events.
  • Support SHS-sponsored wellness programs such as flu clinics, STI screening events, and health observance weeks.
  • Collaborate with departments across campus (e.g., Counseling Center, Campus Recreation, Residence Life, Athletics) to promote shared wellness goals and co-host student programs.
  • Collaborates with the director of Student Health Services to evaluate health and wellness programming; receives constructive feedback from relevant parties; and implements feedback
  • Maintains competency in health trends and educational best practices by attending workshops and continuing education sessions.
  • Recruit, supervise, and develop student leaders and interns in areas of wellness.
Administrative Duties (10%)
  • Maintain and document all outreach and education activities in accordance with departmental assessment protocols.
  • Serves on Health and Wellness and other relevant committees (as assigned) to communicate department efforts, share resources, & develop/maintain relationships
  • Assist with clinical operations support including: ordering medications and supplies, conducting inventory, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Documents clinical encounters within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system; assists with EMR template development, reporting, and training new staff, work study students, and volunteers
Student Health Services are mandatory employees and, as such, may be required to report to work during states of emergency. Additionally, this position requires some evening and weekend hours to support Student Health Services and university programming.

Management Preference:
  • Preferrably licensed as an RN
  • Clinical experience, preferably in a college health, primary care, or public health setting
  • Experience in health education, outreach initiatives, or population health preferred.
  • CPR/BLS certification required
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, & collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.


Lic or Certifications Required by Statute or Regulation: Unrestricted and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Verification required.
