Job Summary:

Department of Pediatrics, Section of Nutrition has an opening for a full-time (1.0 FTE) Assistant Professor position. The Department is seeking an early researcher to further expand and complement its program of extramurally funded basic, translational, clinical, and outcomes research in the field of the World Health Organization designated spectrum of nutrition - with an emphasis on interventions, cancer survivorship and precision nutrition.

This position is full-time (40h/week) appointment at the Assistant Professor. This position is a tenure-track eligible, regular series faculty position. Duties will include independent research, teaching, scholarly activities, and service responsibilities.

Established in 1993, the CU School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics Section of Nutrition was the first independent program dedicated to addressing and promoting best practices for nutrition and physical activity with a focus on disease, health and well-being for infants and children.

Through clinical services, research, education, community outreach and advocacy, the section offers a wealth of expertise across all areas of Nutrition Science. Areas of emphasis include micronutrients, precision nutrition, developmental origins of adult disease, early infant feeding, epigenetics and global health. The Section of Nutrition has a strong commitment to research and education. In 2024, the section had over $24 million in research funding; and their nutrition training programs include the nation's longest-serving NIH-funded T32 program.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan, perform, and analyze research related to the overall mission of an extramurally funded research program.

Conduct research in the field of nutrition (undernutrition, micronutrient deficiency, overnutrition/obesity, precision nutrition), and related conditions and comorbidities e.g., type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and preventive medicine across the entire life course.

Collaborate with faculty to develop educational programs in Nutrition - Certification and Masters in Nutrition

In collaboration with Section of Nutrition, the Department of Pediatrics (DOP), NORC, Colorado School of Public Health (CSPH) and CHCO faculty members facilitate the development of multidisciplinary collaborations in these areas.

Establish an independent program of extramurally funded research and contribute scholarly work in the form of original publications, manuscripts, and presentations.

Provide mentorship and research supervision to graduate and postdoctoral trainees, including those on the T32 Nutrition Training Grant and Clinical Nutrition Fellowship

Provide thought and recognized leadership to emerging national interventional studies, epidemics of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases in diverse adult and pediatric populations e.g., cancer survivorship. approaches to understanding contributors to nutrition, including

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

PhD or MD/PHD or research-intensive MD with focused area of emphasis in field of Precision and related conditions across the life course.

Demonstrated 2-3 years of progressive basic, translational, clinical, and/or outcomes research experience with an emerging track record of grant funding

Evidence of current grant funding- Federal agencies preferred.



Condition of Employment:

Must successfully pass a drug test through Children's Hospital Colorado

Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications:

Current research funding transferable to CU

Experience and expertise in micronutrients, precision nutrition, nutrition science, developmental origins of adult disease, cancer survivorship

Demonstrable evidence and proficiency in the ability to develop hypothesis driven research in basic, translational, clinical and/or outcomes sciences.

Experience in the design and execution of epidemiologic research, including advanced statistical analysis, and in publishing research results.

Demonstrated commitment and ability to advance research and promote engagement.

Excellent teaching skills and track record of successfully mentoring medical, fellow, graduate and post graduate trainees



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrated research experience in the determinants of field of nutritional science and related conditions.
  
• Demonstrated ability to train research team members and trainees in research design and techniques related to specific area of scientific emphasis.
  
• Ability to obtain peer-reviewed extramural funding.
  
• Emerging experience with national and international research networks
  
• Emerging experience with leadership at local levels
  
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$130,000
