The Director, Nursing Programs is a management position designated to assist the Division Dean of Health Sciences in maintaining the quality and integrity of the registered nursing instructional programs. The Director, Nursing Programs assures optimal operation of the District's nursing programs through the supervision of nursing program operations according to the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) program approval requirements for Associate Degree in Nursing pre-licensure programs. This position is also responsible for maintaining program compliance with nursing accreditation agency standards.



EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  1. Manages nursing program curricula and ensures compliance with Board of Registered Nursing guidelines and accreditation standards.
  2. Acts as primary liaison with licensing boards, consultants, and regulatory agencies; establish and maintain clinical agency relationships and contracts.
  3. Oversees and coordinates nursing program application and selection process.
  4. Chairs nursing faculty hiring committees, assisting with recruiting activities.
  5. Schedules nursing classes, labs, and clinical rotations.
  6. Addresses student issues, grievances, and petitions.
  7. Supports faculty evaluation, conflict resolution, and professional development.
  8. Ensures clinical site approvals and maintains required documentation.
  9. Implements strategies to improve retention and conducts exit interviews.
  10. Leads accreditation efforts and prepares reports for licensing and program reviews.
  11. Prepares and manages program and grant budgets; monitors expenditures and ensures compliance with district and state policies.
  12. Collaborates with campus leadership to procure grants to support nursing educational programs, including budget monitoring and expenditures.
  13. Reports known or likely fraud, illegal acts, violation of provisions of contracts or grant agreements to the appropriate parties.
  14. Participates in college governance and professional activities of the District.
  15. Advocates for the department, faculty, and students.
  16. Prepares the annual program plan with faculty input.
  17. Oversees related programs as assigned (e.g., Certified Nursing Assistant).
  18. Provides guidance and oversight to assistant program directors as needed to maintain program operations and compliance with BRN and program accreditation agency standards.
  19. Directly manage all aspects of employee lifecycle including recruitment, transfers, suspensions, layoffs, recalls, promotions, terminations, task assignments, performance evaluations, rewards, disciplinary actions, and grievance resolution, ensuring adherence to company policies and legal requirements.
  20. Performs other related duties as assigned.





MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Nursing including coursework in nursing education or administration or administration of educational programs.
  • One year of experience in a nursing education administrative position, either as the program director or assistant director.
  • Two years of in-person teaching experience in pre- or post-licensure nursing programs.
  • One year of experience in a clinical Registered Nursing role.
  • Ability to demonstrate that you meet the qualifications to be approved as a Program Director by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills and abilities commonly associated with this position.

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Deep, working knowledge of the BRN's requirements for ADN pre-licensure programs, including curriculum standards, faculty qualifications, clinical requirements, and reporting mandates.
SKILLS:
  • Skill in establishing, maintaining, and troubleshooting clinical site agreements and relationships with hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community health partners.
ABILITIES:
  • Ability to maintain compliance with regional and national nursing accreditation standards.
  • Capable of evaluating and improving curriculum to meet licensure expectations, evolving practice standards, and student performance benchmarks.
  • Must ensure faculty qualifications meet BRN standards and provide support for instructional improvement, clinical alignment, and ongoing professional development.
  • Ability to analyze retention, completion, pass rates, clinical performance data, and faculty/student feedback to identify gaps, drive improvement efforts, and support accreditation and BRN reporting.
  • Demonstrate clear evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, staff, and community.


PHYSICAL ABILITIES

  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.
  • This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing and walking between work areas may be required.
  • Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, typewriter keyboard, or calculator and to operate standard office equipment.
  • Positions in this classification may occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information.
  • Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

  • Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels and controlled temperature conditions.
  • Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
