Position Description
Performs highly skilled mechanical and/or analytical duties lead position in the coordination and completion of projects in a research lab or program. May supervises subordinate employees. Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations are responsibilities of all employees.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Maintains laboratory facilities and equipment preventative maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Conducts regular laboratory checks on the containment facility.
  • Ensures the facility is maintained, stocked and provides support investigators working within the facility.
  • Works with the laboratory director to perform risk assessments and conduct safety inspections.
  • Works with the laboratory director to ensure the biological work is in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as university safety policies.
  • Assist with biological research and data gathering for publications.
  • Conduct biological research and/or clinical testing of samples as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two years experience; or a combination of education and/or related experience to equal six years.
Must take and maintain Security Risk Assessment by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Bioterrorism Risk Assessment Group (BRAG).

This position is designated as involving access to critical infrastructure systems and/or research, as defined by Texas Executive Order GA-48. As such, candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background check prior to employment. Employees are required to comply with all applicable state and federal regulations related to the protection of critical infrastructure. Ongoing employment is dependent upon maintaining eligibility for access and successfully passing periodic security and compliance reviews.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, microbiology, virology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of one year working in a BSL-2 (Biosafety Level 2)/BSL-3 (Biosafety Level 3) facility.

$40,500 - $52,600 - $64,800
