Augusta University's College of Education and Human Development is seeking a non-tenure track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor to serve as the Director of Clinical Practice for educator and other school personnel preparation. We are looking for an innovative self-starter to establish and maintain a collaborative culture within the office of field experience and across the College and with community partners. This position reports to the Dean of the College.
Responsibilities
Teaching - 10%
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and/or graduate courses related to clinical practice and educator preparation.
- Supervise students in culminating residency and other clinical experiences (reduced instructional load commensurate with administrative responsibilities).
- Deliver instruction in online synchronous and asynchronous formats.
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure alignment between coursework and clinical experiences.
Administration - 70%
- Serve as Director of Clinical Practice/Clinical Placements for the College.
- Develop and sustain partnerships with P-12 schools, districts, and other placement sites.
- Coordinate clinical placements in alignment with program requirements, licensure standards, and accreditation expectations.
- Serve as a primary liaison among faculty, staff, students, and external partners related to clinical practice.
- Oversee processes, timelines, communication, and documentation related to clinical placements and supervision.
Research / Scholarly Activity - 10%
- Engage in scholarly, applied research, or professional activities related to educator preparation, clinical practice, supervision, partnerships, or program improvement.
- Supervise or support scholarly dissemination or program evaluation efforts appropriate to a non-tenure-track appointment.
Service - 10%
- Provide service to the department, College, and University through committee participation and leadership.
- Support accreditation, assessment, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Engage in service activities that support the profession and community partnerships.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Students
- Work with teacher candidates from admission through culminating residency, ensuring a coherent, high-quality clinical preparation experience.
- Coordinate, prepare, and deliver undergraduate and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) student orientations related to clinical practice and residency requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and deliver culminating residency and field experience support courses using Brightspace/D2L or comparable learning management systems.
- Create and maintain artifacts checklists for undergraduate and MAT residency students based on the semester calendar.
- Assess and verify completion of residency and clinical practice/field experience requirements, compiling evidence using relevant reports.
- Communicate with students through various methods including email, calendar invites, Brightspace/D2L or comparable learning management systems, help desk, and texting systems.
- Monitor and ensure updates to the Augusta University website and catalog as related to clinical practice and residency requirements.
- Supervise and support students as needed throughout their clinical experiences.
- Facilitate induction efforts in collaboration with faculty and school district partners to support program completers as they enter the profession and document the effectiveness of these efforts.
University Supervisors and Mentor Teachers
- Coordinate with department administrators to identify, complete hiring processes, and onboard University Supervisors each semester.
- Coordinate, prepare, and deliver orientations for University Supervisors and Mentor Teachers each semester.
- Work directly with University Supervisors, including developing and delivering professional learning at various intervals to strengthen supervision practices and the quality of feedback provided to candidates.
- Provide leadership for programming designed to enhance Mentor Teachers' skills as site-based co-educators.
Faculty, Staff, and Stakeholders
- Coordinate with professional education faculty and support staff, including the Certification and Admissions Coordinator, Director of Accreditation and Assessment, and Associate Dean of Academics and Educator Preparation to fulfill field and residency requirements.
- Work collaboratively with faculty and school partners to develop, implement, and refine policies and procedures that support high-quality clinical placements across programs.
- Develop metrics and structures for gathering evidence aligned with Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) standards for clinical practice, including systematic feedback from candidates, alumni, and P-12 and other clinical placement partners.
- Support College events and conferences including the Impacting Student Learning Conference.
- Provide service to the institution and profession by leading, developing, and/or supporting College organizations, councils, and events (e.g., P-20 initiatives, Professional Education Council, Partner School Network).
- Serve on advisory committees to advocate for and guide clinical practice structures and processes.
- Assist the College and its partners by providing vision and leadership to design and sustain high-quality clinical placements in all forms for educator and other school personnel preparation programs.
College and University
OTHER DUTIES: Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have earned doctorate from an accredited university in an education-related field. Candidates who are ABD may be considered.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in K-12 teaching and teacher supervision and teaching in higher education.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and multiple external partners, including P-12 schools and districts.
- Demonstrated understanding of the complexities of P-12 education and university-based educator and other school personnel preparation.
- Commitment to building welcoming relationships among a wide variety of stakeholders and collaborators.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of interdisciplinary teams.
- Proven record of effective online instruction at the higher-education level, including both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments.
- Familiarity with Brightspace/D2L or comparable learning management systems.
- Experience serving in a clinical practice leadership role (e.g., director, coordinator, lead supervisor).
- Experience with successful accreditation processes and data-informed program improvement initiatives.
- Experience supporting a wide variety of teacher candidates and advancing effective, sustainable clinical partnerships.
- Experience with supervision models, mentoring frameworks, and/or innovative clinical practice designs.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
