Position Description
Plans and directs the overall operation of a major department (with institutional oversight) and provides leadership for staff members. Meets ORP eligibility requirements. Under executive direction, performs highly varied administrative duties involving the use of independent judgment and professional skills. Responsible for all employees assigned to area.

About the Department and/or College


Major/Essential Functions
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive TTU Online Student Experience strategy that supports student engagement, belonging, persistence, and success. Establish a clear philosophy and framework for online student community-building aligned with Texas Tech mission, values, and growth goals. Serve as the primary institutional voice and subject-matter expert for online student experience and engagement.
  • Design and scale intentional online community-building initiatives, including virtual programming, peer connections, affinity groups, mentorship networks, and engagement pathways tailored to students at varying stages of academic completion and professional development. Identify and implement tangible benefits and value adds for TTU Online students (e.g., access to resources, partnerships, events, leadership opportunities, recognition programs).
  • Develop and steward strategic partnerships with alumni and industry professionals to create career-connected engagement opportunities, including virtual networking events, speaker series, mentorship programs, and applied learning opportunities. Collaborate with internal and external partners to create meaningful co-curricular and experiential opportunities for online learners.
  • Reimagine traditional campus engagement models for the online environment, leveraging technology, best practices, and emerging trends in online education, workforce development, and digital community building. Evaluate and recommend platforms, tools, and engagement technologies that enhance connection and participation among online students.
  • Ensure accessibility across all student experience initiatives, with a focus on adult learners, military affiliated students, and other non-traditional populations. Integrate professional identity development, leadership growth, and career-readiness opportunities into the online student experience across degree levels.
  • Partner closely with TTU Online teams (advising, recruitment, support services, wellness, communications) to deliver a seamless and cohesive student experience. Collaborate with academic colleges, faculty, alumni relations, and employer partners to align co-curricular engagement opportunities with academic milestones and career outcomes. Serve as a liaison between academic affairs and student-focused units to align online student support and engagement efforts.
  • Define success metrics and KPIs related to student engagement, satisfaction, retention, and sense of belonging. Develop and monitor engagement metrics that reflect degree level, career stage, and student goals, including participation in professional networking and career-aligned initiatives.
  • Use data, student feedback, and assessment tools to evaluate program effectiveness and drive continuous improvement. Prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership on outcomes, trends, and strategic recommendations.
  • Build and lead a growing portfolio of programs and, as appropriate, staff and student employees dedicated to online student experience initiatives. Manage resources and timelines to ensure sustainability and scalability of programs. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and student-centered design within the team.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred. Seven years progressively responsible management experience required. Education beyond bachelor's level may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
  • 7 years of progressive experience in higher education, online education, student engagement, or a related area.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and leading student experience, engagement, or community building initiatives, preferably for online or non-traditional learners, including experience integrating professional development or workforce connected programing.
  • Experience building partnerships with employers, alumni, or external organizations to support engagement and career-connected initiatives.


Pay Range
$95,500 - $124,200 - $152,800
