Incumbents of positions in this series supervise the cleaning and maintenance of building interiors, ensure that standards of cleanliness are maintained; and perform related work as required. Custodial Area Supervisors are exposed to wet, slippery floors; exposed to hazardous chemicals or noxious fumes; work varied shifts or irregular hours; exposed to dust; may be required to stand and walk for extended periods of time; required to be on stand-by call.
The basic purpose of this work is to oversee the general care, maintenance, repair, alteration and security of state buildings and appurtenances.
This is an essential position which may include work out-of-doors in all types of weather including snow shoveling.
Responsibilities
- Supervises building cleaning and functions including cleaning building and waxing of floors, window washing, waste removal and the upkeep of rest rooms, and requisitions supplies.
- Makes inspection tours to ensure compliance with standards of safety, sanitation, and cleanliness in building and effective utilization of personnel and materials; reports hazardous and unusual situations to the appropriate authority. Investigates reports of damage to state property
- Maintain property accounts and records, schedule and conduct periodic inventories and prepare related reports.
- May initiate work orders related to structural and utility problems.
Job Requirements:
- Applicants must have at least three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in building custodial or institution housekeeping services, of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity.
- Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required
Additional Information:
Position Status: Full-time state funded with benefits. AFSCME Council 93, Local 1067 - Unit II bargaining position. This position is deemed Essential.
Hours: 40 hours per week, 10 am - 6:30 pm, Monday - Friday
Salary: $2,224.42 bi-weekly ($ 49,898.16 annually) Grade 16 Step 1

Worksite: Primary location will be Brockton Campus, but assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
