Research Development Associate

Job Summary

The Department of Dermatology at the University of Utah seeks a Research Development Associate to support and expand its clinical, translational, and population health research portfolio. This role partners closely with faculty, clinical investigators, and departmental leadership to strengthen research infrastructure, enhance competitiveness for external funding, and promote interdisciplinary collaboration across the health sciences. The position contributes to a growing and dynamic research environment spanning clinical trials, outcomes research, and basic science. This position may be filled at the Research Development Associate I or II level, depending on qualifications and experience, with the Associate II demonstrating greater independence, leadership, and strategic impact.

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Vice Chair of Research and departmental leadership to develop and implement dermatology-focused research infrastructure and strategic initiatives
  • Administer and track pilot grant programs and other internal funding mechanisms supporting clinical, translational, and outcomes research
  • Develop and manage databases to track research metrics, including publications, grants, clinical trials, and other scholarly outputs
  • Collect, analyze, and synthesize research data to produce reports on departmental research performance, growth, and impact
  • Identify emerging research priorities in dermatology and related fields by working closely with faculty, clinicians, and principal investigators
  • Coordinate resources and tools to promote collaboration across dermatology subspecialties (e.g., medical dermatology, dermatopathology, procedural dermatology) and with other departments
  • Provide strategic guidance and support on proposal development and manuscript development, including editing, reviewing, formatting, and drafting non-technical components
  • Coordinate pre-submission peer review processes to improve proposal quality and competitiveness
  • Disseminate funding opportunities relevant to dermatology research, including federal, foundation, and industry sources
  • Organize and support research seminars, visiting speaker programs, and interdisciplinary events to build a vibrant dermatology research community
  • Support clinical research operations by providing study coordination assistance to faculty and research teams, as appropriate
  • Engage with industry partners, foundations, and other external collaborators to support dermatology research initiatives and partnerships
  • Proactively identify new funding opportunities and partnership pathways to expand the department's research mission
  • Provide administrative support to the Vice Chair of Research

Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience or a master's (or equivalency) degree.This is an Entry-Level position in the General Professional track.Job Code: P58451Grade: P12
Research Development Associate, II
Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.This is a Developing-Level position in the General Professional track.Job Code: P58452Grade: P14

Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Department may hire employee at one of the following job levels:
Research Development Associate, I: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) with up to 2 years of directly related work experience or a master's (or equivalency) degree.

Research Development Associate, II: Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 4 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 2 years of directly related work experience.
