The Visiting Assistant Professor will join the School of Accountancy, which consists of 15 full-time faculty members, offers a Bachelor of Accounting, a Master of Accountancy, and a STEM-designated Master of Science in Accounting, Technology and Analytics. The vision of the School of Accountancy (250 students, first year through master's level) is to be the School of choice for superior students seeking to obtain the accounting knowledge, ethical grounding, and professional, interpersonal and intercultural skills necessary to succeed as leaders in their chosen endeavors.

Position Summary

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Accountancy will have responsibility for research, teaching, and service. We are open to applicants with a variety of perspectives, research and teaching interests and methodological approaches. We have a preference for candidates with a particular interest in teaching financial accounting but are open to other areas of expertise.

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Accountancy will be expected to teach six courses during the academic year, which may include fall, winter, and/or spring quarters. Course schedules typically allow faculty to teach courses over two quarters to allow more time for research. Teaching responsibilities include both undergraduate and graduate level courses using traditional, hybrid, and online delivery methods. Teaching responsibilities may involve day, night, and weekend classes. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrars website. The Visiting Assistant Professor of Accountancy is expected to demonstrate the ability to conduct and publish high-quality research, as well as participate in the academic life of the School of Accountancy and the Daniels College of Business.

Essential Functions

The Visiting Assistant Professor of Accountancy will be expected to teach six courses throughout the academic year, which may include fall, winter, and spring quarters. DU follows the quarter system, with three, 10-week long academic terms in Fall (early September-late November), Winter (January-mid March), and Spring (Late March-first week of June). The Visiting Assistant Professor of Accountancy will be expected to participate in the academic life of the School of Accountancy and the Daniels College of Business. This includes attendance at faculty meetings, participation in assurance of learning, curriculum development, and active engagement in scholarly activities such as research symposia. Significant involvement with students is expected of all faculty members.

  • Demonstrated experience interacting with inclusive communities or evidence of a commitment to incorporate inclusive teaching methods and/or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly inclusive student populations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence, equity, and access in education.
  • Exceptional abilities in scholarly and/or creative activities are needed as required by the department/center/school/college and position.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate in accounting or closely related field from an AACSB accredited school. ABD will be considered. The doctoral degree must be completed no later than March 31 of the first year of employment at Daniels. Candidates will hold the title of Instructor until completion of the doctoral degree.
  • Demonstrated potential for strong performance in teaching, research, and service as defined under Essential Functions.
  • Strong English communication skills (written and oral).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Publications in Financial Times Top 50 journals, those ranked A* by the Australian Business Deans Council, and those ranked 4 or higher in the Association of Business Schools Academic Journal Guide.
  • CA, CPA, CMA or other professional certification in accounting or a related area of expertise.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging inclusive populations and students with different learning styles.
  • Professional experience in the accounting field.

Working Environment
  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities
  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule
While the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar).

Salary Rate:
The salary rate for this position is $170,000

The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
