CURRENT VACANCY: 45%, 12 MONTHS (PART TIME - 18 HOURS/WEEK)
SCHEDULE: MONDAY - FRIDAY; AM or PM SHIFT AS ASSIGNED
This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies across multiple departments within the District.

Grant-funded positions are time limited and contingent upon sufficient funding. This position is grant-funded until June 30, 2028 (subject to renewal).
Join the Long Beach Community College District as a Grants Accounting Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for accounting related duties involving the monitoring and tracking of funds, disbursements, expense transfers and other accounting adjustments for various grant programs of the District. Incumbents must possess a detailed knowledge of rules and regulations governing grant and special project programs.

Additionally, this candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related area and one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in performing financial and statistical record keeping; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.   • Schedule: Monday - Friday; AM or PM shift as assigned
  • Location: Liberal Arts Campus (LAC) but will support both campuses.
  • Salary: Range 29, $2,311.92 - $2,843.01 Monthly
  • *Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications
  • Advanced salary placement: Generally, new employees start at the first step on the salary schedule. Advanced salary placement may be considered on a case-by-case basis; however, please note that requests are typically capped at Step 3.

Duties


GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, performs highly responsible accounting support duties involving preparing, processing, reconciling and maintaining financial and accounting documents and records for grant programs; performs related work as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Grants Accounting Specialist performs highly responsible accounting related duties involving the monitoring and tracking of funds, disbursements, expense transfers and other accounting adjustments for various grant programs of the District. Incumbents must possess a detailed knowledge of rules and regulations governing grant and special project programs.

Grants Accounting Specialist is distinguished from Accounting Specialist in that incumbents in the former class perform accounting support duties requiring a detailed understanding of the processes, regulations and reporting requirements of the various grant programs administered by the District.

Qualifications


Education, Training and Experience:

A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related area and one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in performing financial and statistical record keeping; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in grant accounting is highly desirable.

Experience is evaluated on the basis of a verifiable 35 hour week, unless specified otherwise. Prorated part-time experience may be acceptable.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.

Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

Selection Process:

The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:
  • screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience
  • scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application/ subject matter expert (SME) review. *** Please answer each question thoroughly as they will be read and scored by SMEs***
  • in-person or online:
    1. written examination(s)
    2. qualifications appraisal oral examination
    3. performance examination
    4. technical oral examination
