Position Description
Performs Academic Advising, educational, professional, or other advanced Academic Advising or training at the individual or group level as appropriate. Responsibilities may include assisting in the analysis of special and/or complex problems. May supervise Academic Advisors or other employees. Performance is based on individual advising effectiveness and overall program results obtained. Work is performed under standard supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures.

About the Department and/or College
The Jerry S. Rawls College of Business Administration is AACSB accredited and houses the Lyons School of Accounting that holds separate AACSB accreditation. The college offers the BBA degree with majors in accounting, energy commerce, finance, information technology, management, marketing, and supply chain management. Several formats of the MBA program are offered in fulltime, weekend, and online modalities in Lubbock, the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Houston, and San Antonio. The College offers MS degrees in accounting, data science, finance, and marketing research and analytics. A Ph.D. in business administration is offered with tracks in accounting, finance, management, management information systems, and marketing. With a faculty of over 140 and a staff that exceeds 80, the college enrolls over 5,500 undergraduate and 1000 graduate students.

Major/Essential Functions
  • Responsible for providing educational guidance and assistance for students by planning schedules, recommending courses and determining appropriate education solutions for different types of students.
  • Serve as liaison and foster intentional relationships with other advisors, offices colleges, and departments.
  • Maintaining thorough and accurate records of every student advising interaction using a variety of electronic record-keeping tools.
  • Assists with all graduation activities including commencement, reception and presentation of diplomas and other duties as assigned.
  • Participating in events and activities designed to improve retention, persistence, and recruitment.
  • Stay current on changing institutional information including admissions requirements, new programs, course change deadlines, important dates, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates.
  • Engage in professional development activities, including but not limited to, memberships in professional organizations; attendance at conferences, workshops, division, and department training sessions.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and the evaluation of the academic advisement program's goals and objectives.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required, plus one year relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to keep accurate, detailed records, ability to handle large volumes or work
  • Excellent computer skills, working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience in working with students, customers, or clients
  • Minimum of two years work experience involving detailed work and customer services


Pay Range
$17.69 - $22.98 - $28.32
