Summary


The Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement and Connections in the Division of University Advancement plays a key role in building, strengthening, and leading institutional relationships and volunteer participation with alumni groups. This position focuses on engagement through targeted programming and outreach for those with shared interests, identities, and experiences. Additionally, this position facilitates development of a culture of engagement and philanthropy with current students, including Senior Week and Commencement celebrations, that continues beyond graduation and connects them to BGSU alumni networks nationwide. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and knowledge of or interest in learning and implementing alumni engagement best practices, will ensure success for this position. Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement, the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement and Connections serves as a member of the Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving team.

Essential Functions


  • Develops, coordinates, and evaluates programs and projects that engage volunteers and promotes alumni and constituent activities for BGSU alumni groups. This work may include coordinating and attending related gatherings, meetings, alumni and volunteer recognition receptions, reunions, or other activities that connect with constituents.
  • Creates the strategy that connects current students to the institution and a culture of philanthropy beyond graduation, including activities that celebrate senior week and commencement, and post-graduate connections.
  • Coordinates and trains volunteers who work on specific events, projects, and programs.
  • Attends alumni engagement events to assist with event logistics and provide a welcoming presence for alumni and friends. Responsibilities include greeting guests, supporting event setup and execution, and ensuring a positive experience for attendees.
  • Tracks and updates constituent database with volunteer and engagement opportunities and contacts.
  • Serves as the alumni engagement lead to leverage the career access and networking tool with the BGSU alumni population, and works with colleges and campus partners to support and celebrate alumni when on campus as well as facilitating contributions to institutional priorities, ensuring their involvement is recognized and valued.

Minimum Qualifications

The following Degree is required:
  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
The following Degree is preferred:
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
The following Experience is required:
  • 1 year of work-related experience in alumni relations, volunteer management, communications, marketing, event coordination, nonprofit work, or related field.
