Position Summary

The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy (ELP) in the Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor. The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy is committed to improving evidence-based educational policy and creating educational environments for all students. UB's Educational Administration program is committed to creating a collegial academic environment that is fundamentally concerned with culturally competent educational leaders throughout our three degree programs: 1) a two-year fully synchronous online school leadership certification program through our Leadership Initiative for Tomorrow's Schools (LIFTS), 2) a three-year fully online Ed.D. in Educational Leadership program with both synchronous and asynchronous components, and 3) a department-wide in-person Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy.

The persistent challenges PK-12 schools face is a clear indication that educational leaders need to be able to support instructional innovations and shifts in professional development to meet the needs of all students in the 21st century. Building on our expertise in educational leadership development, educational change, school district policy implementation, and instructional leadership, we seek a colleague whose research is focused on school improvement efforts and/or educational leadership development. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise applying critical perspectives, quantitative analyses of survey data and/or large datasets or mixed methods in their research. Further, our future colleague will explore ways to engage in curricular (re)design, program revision, and research-practice partnerships. We will also prioritize candidates who can demonstrate connections between their research, teaching, and service to meet the needs of all children.

Responsibilities Include:
Conduct exemplary research, commensurate with Research 1 tenure track faculty. appointments, leading to the development of innovative ideas and publications in prominent scholarly outlets.
Pursue extramural funding for research initiatives.
Teach two courses per semester at the graduate level.
Advise and mentor graduate students
Fulfill service responsibilities related to program, departmental, and university affiliations.

Appointments are for a ten-month academic year beginning the Fall of 2027.

Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, or Curriculum and Instruction by August 2027.
Experience in a PK-12 educational system with preference given to those with experience as teacher leaders or administrators.
Clearly articulated research agenda on educational leadership or related topics.
Demonstrated potential for research productivity via peer-reviewed scholarship.
Ability to pursue and sustain an externally funded research program.


Preferred Qualifications

Critical methodologies, quantitative analyses of survey data and/or large datasets tied to school improvement efforts, or mixed methods.
Research agenda that focuses on supporting culturally competent leadership practices, urban educational leadership development, and/or the principalship.
Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching pedagogies to drive school improvement efforts and/or educational leader development in the 21st century.
Experience teaching in synchronous online and hybrid formats.
