About the College
Founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges, the College of Arts & Sciences is comprised of 15 departments, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The College has more than 10,000 students enrolled representing more than a quarter of the overall Texas Tech University student population while maintaining a 22:1 student to faculty ratio.

About the Department/School/Area
The History Department at Texas Tech is a vibrant place, home to over 30 faculty members who regularly publish innovative research. We commonly serve more than 5,000 undergraduate students each semester, nearly 200 of whom are majors, with an additional 300 minors-including many in military history-and area concentrations. We also have a robust graduate program of around 80 students pursuing MA and PhD degrees. Our students have gone on to careers in education, politics, law and public service of all kinds. The History Department also plays a critical role in Texas Tech's Medieval and Renaissance Studies Center, a campus-wide interdisciplinary, graduate certificate-granting institution that brings together faculty whose research focuses on topics relating to the premodern world.

Major/Essential Functions
In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

As a faculty member in the Department of History, you will be expected to:

contribute to the teaching mission of the department
mentor graduate students
develop a record of peer-reviewed research and scholarly engagement
pursue research funding as opportunities allow
provide service to the department, college and university

Faculty Qualifications

A completed PhD in Medieval History or a closely related field, obtained by September 1, 2027.
Established track-record of peer-reviewed research in the field of Medieval History.
A strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching
