Position Summary
The Center for Research and Education in Special Environments (CRESE) is seeking a Senior Research Support Specialist. The mission of CRESE is to advance the science of human physiology, performance, safety, and health in extreme environments through rigorous, ethically conducted research; to train the next generation of scientists in an environment of excellence and integrity; and to translate our findings into practical benefits for military personnel, emergency responders, athletes, workers, and the public. Located on the University at Buffalo's South Campus, CRESE is home to five principal investigators who are leaders in human integrative physiology -- studying the effects of exercise and environment on various systems within the human body. CRESE utilizes a wide variety of unique research equipment and environmental chambers, allowing the simulation of a wide spectrum of air temperatures, humidity, altitude, depth, and water immersion. The ideal candidate will be familiar with common exercise physiology techniques and diagnostic exercise equipment such as maximal oxygen consumption testing, resting and exercising measures of metabolic rate, heart rate, and blood pressure, and understand basic cardiovascular and thermal physiology. The candidate should possess knowledge of or have the ability to learn common computer-based programs in the field of human physiology. The candidate will be responsible for running grant-funded research studies and developing methods through pilot testing. Strong interpersonal skills, independence, and an aptitude for problem solving while working within a dedicated professional team is required.
Job Duties Include: Perform a wide variety of complex experiments and report results to principal investigators. Lead participant recruitment, screenings, data collection, data entry and analyses. Provide support for faculty investigators, research team members, and graduate students to ensure adherence to study protocols and support daily study operations. Maintain accurate and detailed participant records through timely documentation and data entry, in compliance with university policies and applicable standards. Engage with research participants in a professional manner to ensure participant recruitment, screening, enrollment, and retention. May train students and junior-level staff.
