Position Summary:
This position manages and operates the entire feed mill operation under the direct supervision of the Associate Manger of the Dairy/Feed Mill Unit. The Feed Mill Supervisor provides diets for livestock in research, extension and teaching programs; maintains all feed handling, processing and mixing equipment, and feed facilities such as the mix room, elevator legs, hay barn and feeding equipment. The Feed Mill Supervisor prepares feed and feed equipment requisitions, handles computerized inventory and billing system, determine feed needs, and manages quality control on products received. The Feed Mill Supervisor is responsible for maintenance of the feed mill, formulating diets and fabricating feed for teaching, extension and research purposes. The Feed Mill Supervisor participates as guest lecturer in course labs. The supervisor trains and supervises part-time temporary employees to mix experimental rations for the Beef/Sheep, Dairy, Veterinary Science and USDA units. The supervisor assures livestock are fed daily from mixer-feed equipment. The supervisor works directly with faculty and herdsmen in relation to ration formulation. He or she works closely with the Palouse Research, Extension and Education Center (PREEC) Land Manager on production farm-raised hay and straw, and closely with the Livestock and Feed Mill General Manager on the purchased and harvest of hay and straw. The supervisor ensures all livestock feeds are stored correctly and in proper locations; keeps the Feed Mill and surrounding area safe, clean and orderly. The Feed Mill Supervisor will occasionally be asked to provide management relief at the PREEC Dairy and Beef/Sheep Units and assist with other PREEC activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: B.S. in Animal Science or closely related field in agriculture.

Ability to: maintain feed mill equipment, and prepare diets.

Experience: with computer spreadsheets in order to establish and maintain a computerized inventory system.

Must have a valid drivers license and be able to successfully pass a drivers record check.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience: in the operations of feed mixing with experimental rations, delivery equipment and purchasing of feed supplies.

Ability and desire to: work with faculty, staff and students.

Ability to: use computer spreadsheets and word processing programs.

An appreciation of research techniques and an understanding of the need for accuracy with ration mixing and experimental animal feeding.

Must be neat and orderly and have cooperative attitude.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Ability to work with toxic, volatile, and corrosive chemicals or carcinogenic substances; and/or work in adverse environmental conditions, lift, carry, or otherwise move up to 80 lbs.
