The Application Integration Specialist is responsible for developing, deploying and maintaining Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) integration strategies for the University. The candidate will be responsible for executing integration tasks and technical implementations of architected solutions, performing system configuration, system administration, and training/support through the implementation roll-out.

This position will determine how new and existing applications, which may be currently operating on multiple platforms, work together to meet the new and emerging requirements of the University. This position will develop, test, maintain, audit, and troubleshoot application integration configurations. The candidate will train and mentor the current programmer/analyst staff in REST based web services, application integration, and enterprise service bus architecture. The Application Integration Specialist can understand a clients' functional requirements and translate those requirements into technical configurations within an end product.

The position may coordinate activities of a project team and assist in monitoring project schedules and cost. Provides adequate documentation and provides training to others when required. The Application Integration Specialist is able to function with minimal management intervention in areas such as customer service, interaction with peers, and building technical solutions. This person sets an example for the rest of the team and carries a professional attitude towards customers, management, and other peers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes application integration and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) strategies across SaaS and on premise COTS applications

  • Analyzes, designs, codes, tests, implements, and documents complex integrations in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with University standards and procedures and user specifications.

  • Executes integration tasks and technical implementations of architected solutions, performs system configuration, system administration, and training/support through implementation roll-outs.

  • Develops project plans, work assignments, target dates, and other aspects of assigned projects and communicates this information to management and the user community.

  • Analyzes, designs, codes, tests, implements, and documents complex enhancements and applications in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with University procedures and standards and user specifications.

  • Modifies and debugs existing software.

  • Develops an understanding of the University's functional areas.

  • Develops highly effective collaborative relationships with functional users and others within IT.

  • Acts as a technical expert addressing problems of system integration, compatibility, and multiple platform integration. Performs feasibility analysis on potential future projects.

  • Provides training and knowledge sharing with fellow team members and other development groups.

  • Continually develops technical expertise through e-learning and classroom training. Keeps current with trends and technological innovations in the higher education and IT industries.

  • Supports mission critical systems.

  • Provides 24x7 on-call support as necessary for University applications and systems.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or other computer-related field, or equivalent enterprise experience

  • Knowledge of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) methodologies and processes such as object-oriented programming, middleware applications, and message queuing

  • Experience with integration engines (e.g. Talend, Ethos) and enterprise service bus architectures

  • Experience working with SOAP and REST based web services

  • Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server database experience

  • Strong understanding of SQL

  • Strong understanding of UNIX/LINUX shells scripting

  • Strong understanding of Windows systems and services

  • Strong understanding of metrics and data analysis

  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to perform in pressure situations

  • Strong experience with data architecture and application architecture

  • Experience manipulating, generating, reshaping, and generally molding data in a variety of forms including CSV, JSON, and XML

  • Experience supporting COTS and custom software

  • Good knowledge of file security and file transmission techniques

  • Strong understanding of system analysis, design, and Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a professional manner with an emphasis on service quality

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to express ideas concisely and clearly to both technical and non-technical clients


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in higher education

  • Experience with ERP systems utilized in higher education, preferably Banner

  • Experience with CRM systems such as Salesforce, Sugar, or Oracle

  • Experience with Agile/Scrum
