Position Description:
Powered by an inspiring Founding Vision Statement, California State University, Monterey Bay (WWW.CSUMB.EDU) is a comprehensive, mid-sized four-year university whose staff and faculty help transform student lives by emphasizing project-based learning, requiring service learning, and promoting multicultural and global perspectives on and beyond the campus community. CSUMB is both an MSI and HSI and has a vibrant, diverse student body of over 7000 students and growing. Our faculty and staff, many of whom live in campus housing, appreciate living and working about one mile from the shores of the beautiful Monterey Bay. As one of the 23 campuses in the California State University (CSU) system, we offer excellent benefits, including housing, and competitive salaries for our faculty and staff. During our 25th Silver Anniversary Celebration in 2019-20, we will complete two major building projects: the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and the Student Union. By 2030, CSUMB's sustainability initiative is to be carbon neutral.

Computer Science Program

The Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science is one of three degree programs offered by CSUMB's School of Computing and Design (SCD) and is one of the university's largest programs. SCD also offers a bachelor's degree in Communication Design and a master's degree in Instructional Science and Technology and is one of five departments within the College of Science. The CS program at CSUMB collaborates with our partners in reexamining approaches to computer science higher education, especially as it relates to broadening participation in the field and decreasing cost and time to degree. In the past 7 years, we have received nearly $10 million in external funding to develop initiatives to meet these ends. One of our most significant efforts is a cohort-based education model launched in 2013 that graduates students in 4 years or less, and primarily serves students who come from groups underrepresented in CS. This effort has been recognized as one of the top five innovative ideas in higher education by the state of California with a $5M award. Our success in improving diversity in technology has also resulted in significant interest and support from top Silicon Valley companies.
