Job Summary:
We are currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Associate Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities

The Associate Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities will assist the Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities (SRR) in managing the university's educational and developmentally based judicial and student conduct system. The Associate Director will provide direct, comprehensive case adjudication, proactive education with faculty, staff, students, and parents/families on the Student Rights & Responsibilities programming, policies, and procedures. The Associate Director assists in maintaining campus standards and expectations through the student conduct process with our students. The Associate Director responds to issues affecting the campus community as it relates to student conduct and student disciplinary procedures and practices. The Student Rights and Responsibilities unit administers and upholds the EWU Student Conduct Code and policies established by the university trustees. Reporting to the Director of SRR, the Associate Director will manage student conduct casework as assigned by the Director. In addition, the Associate Director will liaison with various internal stakeholders involved in the student conduct and development process at EWU.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors in a field related to student development, education, counseling, law, or conflict transformation.
  • Knowledge of the Clery Act, Title IX, and other federal and legal regulations, policies and guidance related to student conduct processes and procedures in higher education.
  • Knowledge of student development and emerging issues in college student conduct/discipline, with demonstrated ability to engage students in educational process
  • Demonstrated maturity in leadership and decision-making
  • Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters in a field related to student development, education, counseling, law, or conflict transformation.
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible, full-time experience in student conduct administration/judicial affairs in a college or university setting
  • Experience working with faculty with academic integrity and other conduct related issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate with students/parents/families and collaborate effectively with campus partners.

  • Possess diplomacy, tact and the ability to use good discretion with confidential student information.


Job Duties:

Responsibility / Duty: Manage Student Rights and Responsibilities Caseload
  • Assists the Director of SRR in the coordination of all aspects related to the implementation and administration of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Lead hearing panels for those students engaged in the student conduct process, as assigned by the Director of SRR.
  • Manage case management duties and assist with correspondence to individuals involved in the case as well as investigate cases.
  • Maintain contact with parents, guardians, law enforcement officials, and attorneys representing students.
  • Train, recruit, and guide hearing panel members and chair(s), as applicable.
  • Support effective conflict resolution with students, reflecting an understanding of college student development issues and convening resources from multiple departments/constituencies to address complex student concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant federal (Clery Act, Title IX, Drug-Free Schools, etc.) state, and local laws and regulations, as well as EWU policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of departmental publications and statistical/annual reports (including those required by Clery Act).
  • Manage and maintain Maxient student conduct database and confidential student records, as assigned by the Director of SRR. Provide counsel and support to students seeking assistance with conflicts, behavioral concerns, or other personal issues.

  • Develop and deliver programs to educate the student campus community regarding the
  • EWU Code of Conduct and student rights/responsibilities
  • Facilitate workshops and programs designed to foster students skill development in conflict management/resolution, responsible decision-making, and self-efficacy
  • Coordinate educational programming and information dissemination with colleges and academic leadership/units in order to articulate students rights and responsibilities and support their persistence and success
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with campus and community stakeholders, including faculty, students, staff, neighbors, campus and local/city law enforcement authorities, local government officials, alumni, parents, and local businesses.
  • Support the Director of SRR in collaborating with divisional and campus partners to engage in skill-building in areas including conflict resolution, restorative justice, thriving in diverse communities, and living honorably through respect, integrity, and responsibility.

This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value, as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
