About the Opportunity

Job Summary
The Associate Director of Programs reports to the Executive Director of the Mills Institute and fulfills a critical role in leading the Mills Institute's activities and impact. The Associate Director of Programs is a key thought partner with senior management and is responsible for independently overseeing the program development at the Institute. This position leads the development of highly complex global education programs including designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating a full range of support services and programs which meet the objectives of all constituents. The role requires expertise in leading strategic project management and efficient daily operations, excellent customer service, and a proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. The incumbent will be adept at building cross-divisional relationships among diverse stakeholders to advance the Institute's mission, vision, and goals.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Lead, organize, coordinate, and oversee the management of public programming activities and events to provide meaningful engagement opportunities to Institute stakeholders in an effective and efficient manner, including, but not limited to informal gatherings, conferences, receptions, seminars, speaker series, webinars, workshops, and summer programs.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with other offices in the Northeastern network and beyond to encourage, design, and implement programming consistent with Institute goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate and increase collaborations and lead external outreach efforts.
  • Identify relevant speakers, guests, and experts for Institute programs and other opportunities.
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns from stakeholders regarding Institute programs, grants, and strategic planning.
  • Develop and generate data collection, analysis, and presentation materials.
  • Direct and coordinate the preparation, distribution, and updates of communications and marketing associated with Institute programs, which may include print materials, websites, and social media.
  • Maximize resources and manage vendor relationships.
  • Maintain an empowering disposition that emphasizes humanizing relationships with Institute partners.
  • Provide high-level and consistent customer service to both internal and external constituencies.

    Qualifications
  • Master's degree and 2-3 years of experience in all aspects of planning and producing programming and events and/or in alumni relations.
  • Experience working in higher education a plus.
  • Advanced project management (including event planning), organizational, communication (written and oral), and computer skills.
  • Solution-oriented. Ability to recognize potential areas of constituency concern and address, resolve and/or mitigate problems or issues.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills and experience with conflict resolution.
  • Strong group facilitation, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to enlist community and stakeholder participation and feedback with a high level of diplomacy.
  • Ability to produce information that is appropriately presented and effectively received by target constituencies.
  • Ability to take an idea from conceptualization to implementation.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively and actively contribute to the community.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally, use discretion, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates deep empathy, curiosity, and character.
  • Proven ability to work directly with communities that have been historically underrepresented and marginalized.
  • Some weekend and evening hours are required.
  • Hybrid position on a 12-month calendar, requiring more time in the office during peak project season.

    The expected hiring range for this position is $107,300 to the $139,485 based on the position's scope and responsibilities
