Position Summary
The University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine educates aspiring physicians to be justice-minded, global citizens using a community- based, distributed model of education, which fosters inclusion, discovery and innovation. The UIWSOM invites applications for the Director of Clinical Rotations.
The Clerkship Director reports to the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and is responsible for developing, maintaining, and delivering the didactic component of their Clerkship throughout the SOM's clinical rotation sites.
Clerkship directors are needed in the following specialties: Family Medicine; Internal Medicine; Pediatrics; OB-GYN; Surgery; Psychiatry; and Emergency Medicine.
The Clerkship Director also maintains a collaborative and supportive relationship with the Director of the Clinical Rotations, Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, Assistant Dean for Medical and Interprofessional Education and other administrators, students, faculty and staff in keeping with the UIW social justice mission and ensures compliance with all applicable accreditation standards and state and federal regulations. This job posting for part-time Clerkship Director will remain online and be used to hire as needed.
Essential Functions
1. Collaborate with the Phase Directors and Phase Committee to ensure that necessary and desired educational content is addressed, and optimal learning methods are utilized.
2. Deliver the didactic component of the clerkships curriculum in a student-centered fashion that emphasizes active participation and learning.
3. Collaborate with the Osteopathic Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship Director to ensure that osteopathic principles and practice topics are appropriately delivered within the clerkship.
4. Collaborate with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs and the Assistant Dean for Medical and Interprofessional Education to provide any necessary data or information that is required to ensure compliance with the directives and requirements of the COCA and other regulatory bodies.
5. Track national trends in medical education in the clerkship specialty, and implement changes as needed in collaboration with the Phase II Committee.
6. Work with unit directors and other faculty, including the Curriculum committee, as appropriate, to ensure consistency, coordination, and integration, with the four-year curriculum.
7. Regularly review, and if necessary revise, clerkship learning objectives to ensure that they are reflective of clerkship content and adequately meet the overall goals and required competencies of the clerkship.
8. In conjunction with the Phase and Curriculum Committees, implement and document appropriate changes in the clerkship based upon ongoing self-assessment as well as student evaluations, adjunct clinical faculty reports, input from the Deans or Phase Directors and changes in school or national directives.
