Job Summary

The Office of Academic & Learning Innovation at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Community Manager! This is a full-time position that reports to the Executive Director in the Office of Academic and Learning Innovation (ALI). The Community Manager supports the Associate Director and Assistant Director of Program Development's internal and external communications strategy across multiple modalities: web, print, and social media. Together with ALI and program staff from Coursera-hosted degrees, the position coordinates information sessions, in-person gatherings, and events to support community among students in scaled online degrees. This may include work on our MOOC and online offerings and the broader work of the Senior Vice Provost for Online and Extended Education.
In addition, this position creates and manages the brand voice and image of ALI and its work in online education. Duties include creating and publishing content on various media platforms; brand monitoring across relevant platforms; reviewing social media and other marketing metrics to build and improve awareness of ALI; developing opportunities for non-credit and for-credit students who come to CU through the Coursera platform; and the larger work of online education at CU Boulder.

Who We Are

The Office of Academic and Learning Innovation (ALI) is an agile and responsive unit of CU Boulder Online within the Division of Academic Affairs tasked with designing next generation learning experiences that engage the local and global University of Colorado Boulder community. Our mission is three-fold: inspire a re-imagination of teaching and learning, expand access to high-quality learning experiences, and transform higher education for the 21st century. Our work spans innovative on-campus program development, MOOCs, scaled online courses, programs, and degrees, and designing new business and technical processes to support our academic vision.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Facilitating Community-Building Opportunities for ALI-Related Online Student Initiatives
Connect and partner ALI & degree programs to:
    • Schedule, facilitate, and manage in-person student events (i.e. Hub City Meetups).
    • Identify and coordinate opportunities for staff and faculty to meet with program students when traveling.
    • Arrange meet ups for staff, faculty, and students.
    • Publicize and promote the work of faculty, staff, and course facilitators.
    • Submit nominations for staff and faculty recognitions and awards.
    • Promote, support, and facilitate (when necessary) faculty and alumni virtual events.
    • Invite speakers from industries to highlight relevance of program level outcomes and how they relate to employment opportunities/requirements.
    • Promote, support, and facilitate (when necessary) virtual student events.
    • Showcase student academic projects.
    • Explore opportunities for and host virtual conferences.
Provide community feedback to management and team members to:
    • Optimize community events.
    • Inform team members on progress and areas for improvement.
    • Document initiatives and processes.

Promote brand and work of ALI and CU Boulder Online
  • Develop a content marketing plan and editorial calendar.
  • Build engaging and shareable content for a blog, social media page, monthly newsletters and/or promotional videos.
  • Find new marketing and outreach opportunities to push brand image and non-credit programs.
  • Manage ALIs annual speaker series, including but not limited to supporting speakers with travel arrangements, scheduling rooms, managing event agenda, managing invites, managing promotion and partnerships.
  • Organize, produce, and publish webinars to highlight scaled online education at CU.
  • Monitor social media campaigns and analyze web traffic from the online community using key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Organize and facilitate non-credit student events.
  • Compose and publish quarterly non-credit student newsletter.
  • Compose and publish quarterly faculty & partner newsletter.
  • Participate in social events, industry partner events, and workshops.
  • Work with marketing and communication representatives at CU Boulder to ensure accurate brand representation.


What You Should Know

  • This job is largely remote, with occasional onsite meetings required.
  • A portfolio of work will be requested at a later time.


What We Can Offer

The salary range for this full-time position is $50,000-$60,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelors degree.
  • At least one year of professional, job-related experience.
  • Experience with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter/X, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.


What You Will Need

  • Proven ability to plan and lead community initiatives.
  • Knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) and web metrics.
  • Proficient in word processing applications, spreadsheets, presentation software and social media management tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • High comfort level with technology, including proficiency in tools such as Zoom, Mailchimp, Slack, and Outlook.
  • Ability to create and maintain process documentation.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop creative, engaging, and original content.
  • Ability to record, edit, and publish video content online.
