Coordinator of DNP Online Program

The Coordinator of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Online Program for Simmons College is a Boston based, 12-month, .5 FTE employed by the College, reporting to the Dean of the SNHS, for purpose of leading the design, development and delivery of the DNP Online program. This faculty member collaborates closely with the Vice President and Assistant Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, the Program Directors of Simmons Online and 2U, the expert educational media partner for this initiative. The Coordinator oversees all faculty and staff hiring, managing and leading department faculty and staff training that teach/ work within the DNP aspect of the online program. The DNP Coordinator effectively collaborates with the Faculty Director of Nursing@Simmons, Coordinators, Dean of the SNHS and the Chair of Graduate Nursing, key stakeholders including Simmons Online, 2U Faculty Support Technology, and all affiliated Simmons's departments within the college. The DNP Coordinator is expected to present the program through marketing and public forums, as well as written and online formats.

The Coordinator of the DNP Online program is responsible for the day-to-day management of online courses in the DNP Online program, and the long term success of the program. Collaborating with the Dean of School of Nursing and Health Sciences (SNHS) and Chair of Graduate Nursing, and the Director of the Online Nursing program, ensures academic rigor and curricular alignment with the face-to-face Simmons doctoral program, while meeting the needs of current and prospective students and aligning with the overall vision of the Simmons School of Nursing. The Coordinator of DNP ensures that the online program is in alignment with the integrity and quality of the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

Specific responsibilities, include, but, are not limited to:

Program Teaching
Managing course planning, implementation and evaluation predominantly in the doctoral component of the online DNP program;
Interviewing, reviewing applications, screening and offering positions to faculty in collaboration with THCS and faculty recruiting;
Determining the need for faculty and number of sections/Course Leads in collaboration with the faculty recruiter;
Proficiency in delivering online teaching (either as a course lead or section lead) as CL 3 terms annually and SI 3 terms annually;
Providing academic and clinical supervision during the pre-requisite courses selecting appropriate clinical experiences to meet the stated course objectives with the appropriate clinical faculty, in collaboration with the 2U Clinical Placement Team, specific to the DNP program;
Making regular contact and observation with students during their courses, and any clinical preceptorships with the assistance of clinical faculty at this level of the program;
Making visits to states for authorization/accreditation purposes with other Program Directors;
Maintaining evaluative records of student performance and conference with students regarding their progress at appropriate intervals;
Preparing summary evaluations of student performance and faculty performance at termination of course and file;
Collaboratively managing academic student issues with the CL, SI and Academic Advisors.

Planning, Direction, and Coordination
Meeting regularly/Weekly with the Director of Nursing@Simmons, Core Team, the Dean, and the Chair of Graduate Nursing to develop and revise responsive plans for the Department's initiatives for the Online DNP Program, and to revise the online curriculum, as needed;
Hosts bi-weekly meeting with DNP faculty;
Actively participating in all aspects of planning and coordination of the program i.e. weekly team meetings with the Core Team (a cross section Simmons employees, led by Simmons Online and including talent from Marketing, Finance, Technology, Registrar, SFS, THCS), scheduled team meetings with Simmons Online and 2U for collaborative program development , and meetings and activities as needed to meet project goals;
Working with a faculty recruiter to secure online faculty nationally, and providing recommendations on the hiring of new online faculty. Recruits faculty for leads in course coordination, and individual course instructors;
Ensuring that the onsite DNP program curriculum and academic rigor particular to Simmons Nursing is translated and carried over to the Online DNP program;
Acting as the department liaison within the Graduate Nursing Department and SNHS at large, in the offering of the online courses within the online curriculum of the DNP;
Working collaboratively with Chair of Graduate Nursing and Dean of SNHS and the Directors of Strategic Initiative to oversee the online program budget for the needs of the online program and course design and delivery;
Participate and lead in webinar and welcome for faculty and students;
Develops program that links presentations, events, speakers hosted at Simmons that can be video streamed and offered to Nursing@Simmons faculty and students;
Collaborates with 2U technology and Simmons marketing to launch this initiative in 2017-18;
Mentors faculty identified as being challenged with utilizing the LMS and online classroom to full advantage;
Verifying, ensuring and supporting the technology training of new online faculty in collaboration with Simmons Online and 2U;
Demonstrating a command of and compliance with all terms of the contract between Simmons College and 2U.

Coordinating Faculty Support
Providing first line of contact and assistance for online faculty in collaboration with Program Director and Assistant Directors;
Conducting formative assessments of faculty for online teaching abilities for the DNP faculty/courses, recommending opportunities for improving those abilities, with the support of the Simmons Online and 2U staff;
Providing support to online faculty, as needed, for the use of online teaching and learning methods to supplement both synchronous and asynchronous components of the courses, leveraging resources within Simmons Online and 2U;
Development of faculty resource and training with a focus on improving synchronous teaching skill, topics of interest requested by current faculty;
Updating current online faculty of any curricular or programmatic changes, such as course iteration;
Conduct regular leadership meetings with Course Leads in this component of the program;
In collaboration with Simmons Online and 2U production staff, informing Simmons Community about new developments and research in online education and national standards that pertain to online education, to SNHS, and sharing this information with faculty and SNHS leadership as appropriate;
Facilitates and participates in ongoing faculty continuing education to encourage and support faculty retention, including exploring the initiatives of the Academic Quality and Sustainability Committee student concerns meeting, their priorities and exploring what projects are appropriate for the development at the doctoral or programmatic level and others that are more doctoral level project to be spearheaded by the Assistant Directors and Program Director, such as writing initiatives, program evaluation and research.

Student Support
Responding directly to DNP online students' concerns and taking appropriate actions based on these concerns at a high level;
Designing and leading a process for advising support to online students in collaboration with Academic Advising, Simmons Online- leveraging best practices from other universities; Will be first line of student response for basic concerns and questions for SI's and following up on academic advising;
Coordinating departmental student support services with other student support services in the 2U network, Simmons Online and elsewhere;
Reviewing student applications, following the established Admissions Criteria Guidelines, by the Nursing@Simmons Admissions Committee. Includes application escalations of DNP candidates;
Evaluate pre-requisite waiver requests for DNP candidates;
Work with Simmons faculty to implement Sigma Theta Tau application process for Nursing@Simmons students;
Establish facilitation for tutoring support, in collaboration with co-coordinators and student ambassadors, in the foundational sciences and elective courses, for students who require support beyond that which their SI or study groups are able to provide.

Marketing
Collaborating with marketing efforts for the Online DNP Program;
Collaborate and contribute to review, edit and offer blog and written response to 2U marketing efforts;
Meet with mentors and other directors of online programs at collaborating Colleges and/or Universities to discuss and support and coordination for online programs, lessons learned and best practices;
Correspond with those interested in learning more about the department's online education efforts, leveraging support from Simmons Online;
Collaborating with the Nursing@Simmons, Simmons Online and 2U teams to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing strategies and initiatives on-going;
Presentation both locally and regionally regarding the integration of online education at the graduate level in nursing.

Assessment and Reporting
Promptly communicating with Simmons Online, 2U, Dean of SNHS and the Graduate Nursing Chair, Simmons Program Committees, online faculty, and online students about issues and events concerning the online programs; fiscal, student or faculty related, technology;
Maintaining communication with the Program Director, Chair of Graduate Nursing and Dean of SNHS to oversee a program for the use of research-based evaluative criteria in the assessment of online courses and programs that is quality improvement based;
Conducting an interview(s) with each online instructor prior to course implementation to review materials and plans for implementation; providing assistance as needed; evaluating materials and instructional plans, observing synchronous sessions, indicating suggestions for improvement and/or identifying best practices to share with other faculty;
Involved in recommending to the Graduate Chair of Nursing assignments and best practices of faculty to teach online courses and developing real time, cutting edge educational efforts to enhance online teaching efforts for faculty.

Qualifications

Candidates for the Coordinator of DNP will have:
An earned DNPor PhD with MS in Nursing is required
Must have the ability to obtain MA Registered Nurse License, certification of Family Nurse Practitionerhighly preferred
A minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as an advanced practice nurse and administrative and/or academic leadership
Evidence of continued and progressive professional development in the academic and professional communities.
A minimum of 5 years of teaching in a nursing program (masters and above preferred), preferred.
Ongoing scholarly activity that includes research and publication preferred.
Skill in hybrid and online course design and delivery as well as an interest in the adult learner, preferred.
