The University Memorial Center (UMC) at CU Boulder encourages applications for multiple Custodian I positions! The UMC is seeking dedicated individuals to join the their custodial team to play a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The UMC is a vibrant and dynamic hub of student life, encompassing various facilities such as dining areas, meeting rooms, recreational areas, a bank, and event spaces. As a member of the custodial team, you will ensure these spaces remain in pristine condition, reflecting the high standards of our institution. The Division of Student Affairs consists of 30 departments that provide student support and services dedicated to helping students become successful, curious, competent individuals during their time at CU Boulder. The work in Student Affairs supports all factors of the student experience, no matter what department a staff member may work in. This includes where students live, eat, make friends, build professional skills and find help if they need it. Many departments provide involvement opportunities, educational resources and support services to help students find their community and build lifelong skills. Known as the campus "living room," thousands of people visit the University Memorial Center every day to grab a bite to eat, enjoy free entertainment, shop the retail stores, study with the free wireless internet or engage with peers. The UMC celebrates diversity through food, dance, art, music and the free exchange of ideas.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Daily Cleaning and Maintenance of Public Areas:
  • Responsible for maintaining and cleaning all public areas, entryways, and stairways. This includes sweeping and mopping hard surface floors, vacuuming carpets, emptying waste receptacles, dusting counters and shelves etc., washing windows and other areas as needed.
Daily Restroom Cleaning:
  • Daily cleaning of various restrooms throughout the UMC. This includes the cleaning and sanitizing of restroom fixtures, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning mirrors, restocking the various dispensers with the appropriate products, emptying waste receptacles, and cleaning restroom walls and stalls. Proper and safe use of cleaners and cleaning equipment is essential.
Daily Cleaning and Maintaining Offices:
  • Clean and maintain offices throughout the UMC. This includes dust mopping and mopping floors or vacuuming where appropriate, emptying waste receptacles, dusting and cleaning office furniture and walls.
Strip and Finish Hard Floors and the Deep Cleaning of Carpets:
  • Strip, seal, and rewax hard surface floors and shampoo or bonnet buff carpets as needed. Proper and safe use of equipment, strippers, seals, waxes, and carpet cleaners is essential.
Semi-Annual Deep Cleaning Projects:
  • Position will assist with a variety of cleaning and maintenance projects. This includes the cleaning and washing of windows, walls, light fixtures and furniture throughout the UMC.
Provide Support to other Departments:
  • When necessary, provide support to Setup or Maintenance team. May also assist and support the Setup Team with the moving of office furniture or other heavy pieces of furniture or equipment when needed.
Snow Removal:
  • Provide snow removal on the sidewalks and access ramps located around the UMC to ensure safe access in and out of the UMC.


What You Should Know

This position will either work Tuesday through Saturday, or Sunday through Thursday, 12:00PM to 8:30PM.
