Job Summary:
The Center for Academic Advising & Retention is currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for the following position: Degree Completion Coordinator

The Degree Completion Coordinator supports EWU's student success efforts ensuring the unique student needs of each college are represented in all programming. This role will link the Student Success Collaborative and Degree Completion office and centralized advising with college-level administration, academic departments, and faculty as well as between other university offices. This position is responsible for collecting and analyzing university- and college-level student success and retention data used to inform campus-wide programming and initiatives.

This position is responsible for supporting advising and retention programming and academic advising communication plans and strategies, with a special focus on students assigned to faculty advisors. The Degree Completion Coordinator will work with professional advisors, faculty advisors, and the college deans' offices to address university-wide college-level advising concerns.

This role may support any of EWU's campus-wide student success, retention and graduation initiatives and programs including but not limited to the early warning system, academic planning and registration and accompanying technology, the student-facing mobile application and other tools, a comprehensive faculty academic advising development and support program, and others. This also includes the ongoing monitoring and assessment of each program and initiative.

This position may serve the Spokane campus in addition to the Cheney campus. All work will be done in conjunction and collaboration with the Assistant Directors in the Student Success Collaborative and Degree Completion office and student success teams and in direct alignment with EWU's set retention and graduation goals. This position reports to the Director of Student Success Collaborative and Degree Completion (SSCDC).

Required Qualifications:
  • Required Degree: Masters
  • Two (2) years of experience in support programs which must include a focus on student persistence and degree completion.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing data, generating reports based on the data, and developing data-driven programming for student success and retention initiatives.
  • Experience creating and maintaining strong, collegial, positive, and collaborative partnerships with university faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in using Student Success Management Systems (SSMS) or similar transferrable experience to improve student outcomes.
  • Experience using computer technologies such as databases, internet, spreadsheets, tracking systems, and word processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and time while under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Candidates must demonstrate interest, ability, and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, or diversity.

Job Duties:

Responsibility / Duty: STUDENT SUCCESS & DEGREE COMPLETION PROGRAM SUPPORT:
  1. Develop, coordinate, and participate in data-driven, campus-wide student success and retention initiatives, ensuring the unique student needs of each college are considered.
  2. Monitor implementation and assess results of campus-wide student success and retention initiatives from the college perspective. Report college-level results to the Director of SSCDC as well as the college deans.
  3. Develop, coordinate, and offer information, training, and development for supervising advisors, advising teams, faculty, and staff on advising policies, procedures, and practices leading to fully informed faculty and professional advising teams at EWU.
  4. Develop, coordinate, and implement communication strategies between college departments, the Center for Academic Advising and Retention, and other university administrative offices ensuring an ongoing two-way communication flow.
  5. Aid in the delivery of a comprehensive, student-centered, proactive, academic advising support program for new and current faculty advisors.
  6. Support all aspects of EWUs Title III project, including but not limited to leading or participating in the Student Success Collaborative Advisory Council or subcommittee meetings and associated work.
  7. In conjunction with the Director, implement the Faculty Champions program including but not limited to recruiting, onboarding, training, and guiding faculty advisors in their Champion role, supporting the goal of excellent faculty advising at EWU.
  8. Increase user adoption of all Navigates functionality including but not limited to the base advising functions as well as the Academic Planning and Registration module and the student-facing mobile application by students and advisors.
  9. Aid the administration of Navigates mobile application (web-based and phone app) including increasing student user adoption of the app and the management of the student-facing and faculty-facing content in the Content Administration Tool (CAT).
  10. Create and maintain college-related advising materials, including but not limited to major academic plans, advising guides, web-based resources, and training documents.
  11. Advise the Dean, Associate Dean, and/or Assistant Dean on academic advising issues, including but not limited to supporting the development of a college-level definition of advising.
  12. Serve as a member of the college administrative team, attend faculty, staff, department meetings, and retreats as requested by the Director and the Dean.
  13. Serve on admission/certification/scholarship/disciplinary boards, as applicable.

Responsibility / Duty: DIRECT STUDENT SUPPORT:
  1. Identify and support students assigned to faculty advisors who may have barriers to graduation or enrollment, ensuring barriers and underlying reasons are addressed and that the Director and the colleges are informed of potential roadblocks.
  2. Conduct regular and targeted outreach to students who applied for graduation and/or left EWU with no degree. Collaborate with other departments and service units as needed.
  3. Create and implement an online course to orient students to online learning and to support those who may be struggling with the online learning environment.
  4. Create and implement student success programming for certain targeted populations identified by leadership which may include orienting students to EWU and its resources, helping them to identify key skills and strategies for academic success, and fostering engagement and belonging at EWU.
  5. Assist with managing the university-wide Early Warning System, responding to Cases and Alerts in Navigate, involving faculty advisors as much as possible, ensuring students are being connected to the appropriate resource promptly and that the referral loop is closed when the student situation is resolved.
  6. Participate in the universitys probation/dismissal/reinstatement program, including but not limited to attending committee meetings and meeting with students, as appropriate.
  7. Facilitate the transition of major-ready/faculty-ready students from the Center for Academic Advising and Retention to faculty advisors in the departments.
  8. May develop or conduct transition seminars, workshops, and student success labs; and conduct group presentations as requested by the Director.
  9. May teach no more than 7.5 credits of coursework per year related to student success initiatives, including but not limited to transition seminars, success strategies seminars, and other topics as requested by the Director and the Dean.
  10. May serve as a mentor in the staff and faculty mentorship program and may advise a student club or organization.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Salary Information: The salary for this position is $46,805 (minimum) up to $56,167. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on qualifications, education, experience, and skills.
