Director of Graduate Marketing, Recruitment, and Admission

Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of this position is to administer, direct, promote, manage and lead all activities in the areas of marketing, recruitment, admissions and enrollment of graduate students for the School of Graduate Studies, in its mission to provide graduate and professional education to students at North Carolina Central University which will prepare them for pursuing the doctoral degree, employment and becoming entrepreneurs.

The functions include the following:
  • Researching and developing new and innovative approaches to address and improve the recruitment and retention of high caliber students in all graduate programs;
  • Identify best practices, Evaluate, and apply learning to improve the overall graduate application process to ensure correctness, efficiency and consistency;
  • Provide expertise in the use of admission software to all SGS's admission staff;
  • Serve as the campus administrator for graduate admission application system;
  • Mitigate issues with the graduate admission application system and with the university's Banner system as they relate to admissions;
  • Develop multifaceted reports regarding recruitment, enrollment and retention for all graduate programs;
  • Utilize and interpret the recruitment, enrollment and retention data to make improvement in SGS process and implement innovative approaches in achieving SGS's goals;
  • Proactively troubleshoot graduate applicants' issues and students' enrollment issues;
  • Provide leadership by working closely with all graduate program directors, coordinators and advisors to define enrollment goals, develop recruitment and outreach strategies, and provide recruitment information;
  • Assist with new program development through the employment of interest surveys and feasibility studies, when applicable;
  • Help identify new program areas (both academic and geographic) for growth;
  • Attend conferences and professional organizational meetings geared toward retention and student success;
  • Work in close collaboration with the faculty, staff and administrators for determining internal customer service benchmarks for admissions/new admits enrollment, and in collaboration with the enrolled student services coordinator, retention;
  • Assist students seeking academic information for admissions and readmissions;
  • Direct students to resources within the University that provide additional assistance (e.g., financial aid, testing, career services, and student employment);
  • Direct and facilitate on-campus events for graduate students;
  • Assist in the review and evaluation of policies and procedures related to recruitment, admissions and enrollment and ensure compliance with all SACS-COC graduate and post baccalaureate standards that relate to admissions, recruitment and retention;
  • Monitor and assist in the maintenance of all records related to the position, including evaluation and assessment instruments for internal and SACS-COC documentation;
  • Assists in cross training others on the basic functions of the unit;
  • Monitor an effective communication plan to prospective students via web-based media;
  • Travel to participate in major recruitment events;
  • Manage department website and serve as unit's website liaison; and
  • Work closely with the SGS's Public Communication Specialist in designing educational marketing strategies for the development of publications, brochures and media plans.



    Minimum Education/Experience:
    Masters degree; or an equivalent combination of a Bachelors degree and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
