Position Summary:
The Northern Extension District is seeking to hire a tenure track Assistant or a tenure track or tenured Associate Professor Educator. The Educator will provide leadership in all Benewah County Extension programming and contribute to Northern District and statewide agriculture and natural resource programs. The Educator will aid in university outreach where appropriate. They will plan, develop, implement, evaluate, and report agricultural and natural resources programs for stakeholders and clientele. In addition, the Educator will provide county and multi-county support for 4-H Youth Development programs (80%). The Educator will publish in high-quality refereed journals, peer-reviewed Extension publications, and will present at professional conferences, and submit proposals and secure funding to support this scholarly and creative work (5%). The Educator will serve on district-, college-, and university-wide committees and in other community leadership roles and with professional organizations. The Educator will serve as administrative chair of the Benewah County Extension office, supervising county staff, negotiating, and managing the county budget, and will build/maintain positive relationships with stakeholders (15%).

Rank and tenure are negotiable based on how the candidate meets the criteria outlined in department and college bylaws. A stipend will be provided for serving as County Chair.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master of Science Degree from an accredited institution in agricultural area that may include, Crop Science, Plant Science, Soil Science, Horticulture, Agricultural Economics, or related Agricultural Science and Natural Resources Science degrees.
  • Experience working collaboratively with individuals and organizations from a wide range of public and private perspectives.
  • Experience adapting research materials for effective oral and written presentation.
  • Flexibility with working hours; willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and overnight travel.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years of experience in agriculture and/or natural resources (relevant experience acquired within last 5 years preferred.)
  • Experience with farm and business management skills in a rural community framework.
  • Ability to work well in a team and provide effective instruction, support, marketing, and promotion for Extension programs.
  • Computer literacy and good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in hiring and supervising office staff.
  • Experience working with youth development programs.
  • Experience collaborating with tribal communities and providing tribal educational programs.





Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • This position may include standing for periods of time, walking on uneven surfaces, lifting 50 pounds, working indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
