Position Summary:

The IT Business Analyst at the University of Colorado office of Advancement holds a pivotal role in driving efficiency and success within our IT operations. This position involves analyzing and translating IT-related business needs into actionable insights, functional specifications, and user stories. The role encompasses conducting thorough analysis of IT processes, collaborating with key partners to capture requirements, and ensuring seamless alignment between IT solutions and business objectives.

Additionally, the position serves as the Scrum Master for our Center of Excellence (COE) teams, guiding them through Agile methodologies and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement in the delivery of IT projects. The ideal candidate possesses a blend of strong analytical skills, IT business insight, understanding of Agile practices, and the ability to facilitate effective communication between technical and non-technical teams.

This position is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff system and reports to the Senior Director of Advancement IT.

Where You Will Work:

The CU System Office of Advancement follows a "flexibility first" approach to work that defines how we manage and make use of in-person time. As a fully remote position, this role will work remotely with the exception of four separate callback weeks per year- when all our colleagues are expected to be together in the office. During callback weeks, this role is expected to work from the CU System office at 1800 Grant St. in Denver, Colorado. Any additional in-office time will be determined by the manager for this role.

Requirements Analysis & Delivery of IT Solutions
  • Conduct thorough analysis of current IT-related business processes, systems, and workflows.
  • Collaborate with partners to gather and document IT business requirements.
  • Translate IT business needs into functional specifications and user stories.
  • Analyze IT data to identify trends, patterns, and insights for informed decision-making.
  • Develop and present reports, dashboards, and visualizations for IT-related findings.
  • Work closely with technical teams to ensure alignment between IT needs and technical solutions.
  • Participate in the testing and validation of implemented IT solutions to ensure they meet business requirements.
  • Act as the Scrum Master for COE teams focused on IT projects, facilitating Agile ceremonies, and fostering continuous improvement.
  • Work with customers to examine specific use cases against vendor-delivered products, vet interpretations, document decisions, and maintain an up-to-date repository of such information.
  • Negotiate conflicting or unprioritized requirements with partners. This may include holding meetings to deliberate on solving specific problems, identify risks and manage technology-related restrictions.
  • Lead issue resolution and support activities with customers.

Project & Planning Participation
  • Coordinate and engage with multiple ongoing projects and deployed services.
  • Ensure projects continue to meet the established objectives and business needs within the established timeframe through a continual service improvement methodology. This includes leading deployment testing, problem resolution efforts and managing relationships.
  • Participates in university- and campus-wide IT planning efforts.

Professional Development & Proficiency Maintenance
  • Maintains proficiency and acquires knowledge related to the work performed by reading trade journals, attending conferences, seminars, and classes, participating in discussions with colleagues and peer institutions, and collaborating with vendors.

Salary: The anticipated hiring range has been established at $78,200-$80,000.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Please ensure your resume includes any and all relevant experience to be accurately assessed against these qualifications. You must meet all minimum requirements listed at the time of application to be considered for this role.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or equivalent professional experience (professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis)
  • Three (3) years of business and/or technical analysis experience, which may include any combination of the following components:
    • Documenting business processes
    • Gathering requirements
    • Creating business cases and functional specifications
    • Writing test plans
    • Analyzing and fixing software application issues
    • Testing software application changes

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years of business or technical analysis experience, as indicated above
  • Experience with the following:
    • Salesforce
    • Implementing an enterprise application
    • Field of engagement, marketing, or communication
    • Government and/or institution of higher education
  • Professional certification (e.g. Certified Business Analysis Professional, Certification of Competency in Business Analysis, certified scrum master)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

To be successful in this position, employees will need to know the following:
  • Understanding of IT business analysis principles, methodologies, and standard processes.
  • Proficiency in analyzing IT processes, systems, and data to derive relevant insights.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and Scrum framework in an IT context.
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools relevant to IT, such as SQL, Excel, or similar.
  • Understanding of project management principles and their application in IT projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in an IT context.
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across diverse IT and non-IT teams.
  • Ability to translate IT business needs into functional specifications and user stories.
  • Proficiency in gathering, documenting, and managing IT business requirements.

  • Capability to lead and guide COE teams as a Scrum Master, removing impediments and fostering team collaboration.
