Job Summary
Ensures international students and the university are in compliance with federal rules and regulations for F-1 and J-1 visa holders. Serves as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the University and advises on visa, immigration and SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) processes. Works closely with students to provide guidance on visa policies and procedures related to academic standing and university policies.
Responsibilities
1. Serves as Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for KSU's F-1 and J-1 programs and as such, advises on a range of issues including immigration, academic matters and life in the US with a primary focus on F-1 student advising
2. Advises the International Student and Scholar Services Office (ISSSO) Director on issues related to SEVIS and visa compliance within ISSSO
3. Creates and participates in ISSSO programming, workshops, and events
4. Liaises with campus partners and departments as assigned and performs outreach collaboration for campus support and local community services
5. Contribute to the development of the office through both short-term and ongoing projects and duties
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's from an accredited institution of higher education in International Relations, Foreign Languages & Literatures, or related field
Required Experience
Two (2) years of previous experience in higher education, international education or related fields
Licensure/Certification Required:
Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident per Federal government requirements for SEVIS access
Preferred Qualifications
Additonal Qualifications:
Experience studying or living abroad
Ability to speak another language
Demonstrated intercultural competency and/or experience working with individuals from other cultures
Knowledge of F and J visa regulations
Knowledge of SEVIS, Sunapsis and related software
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of F-1 and J-1 visas
Knowledge of SEVIS visa compliance rules and accompanying tracking and reporting systems
ABILITIES
Able to advise students, faculty/staff and administrators on visa compliance
Able to navigate University systems for student enrollment, payment and retention services
Able to interpret visa requirements as they relate to academic and university policies
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite, SEVIS, Sunapsis)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
