Job Description
  • The Learning Resources Center (LRC) strives to support all students during their academic journey here at the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) by creating an unparalleled student experience that:
  • Empowers students to achieve their true learning potential
  • Fosters meaningful interactions through peers, faculty, and staff
  • Develops human capacity through independent learning and critical thinking

The LRC understands that most students today use technology as a learning tool, and it is imperative for us to consider and implement different strategies to support student learning in that virtual space. Responsibilities include developing and implementing new marketing and outreach strategies/initiatives, such as creating class announcement/promotional videos for the Supplemental learning programs. This position contributes to social norming campaigns under the guidance of the LRC Director that counter stigmas associated with seeking peer tutoring services, supplemental learning, or related academic support services.

Reporting to the Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating with the Director to support Supplemental learning programs. The Program Coordinators oversee the coordination of services, which includes supervision, training, and development of undergraduate and graduate peer mentors and supplemental learning leaders, as well as promotion and marketing of services to students through classroom visits and various social media platforms. This position will also assist with the collection of data for program improvement, while supporting the LRC's international tutor training and certification through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA).

The coordinator approves and processes Supplemental Learning Leaders' time sheets, as well as monitors peer educators recorded time to ensure payroll accuracy. The coordinator collaborates with students and peer educators to resolve communication issues and conflicts, clarify program expectations, academic honesty policies, and answer general questions regarding LRC services.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Serve as primary supervisor for the Supplemental Learning Leaders (student hourly mentors). Will be required to develop and implement recruitment plans, selection processes, and hiring of qualified student peer educators.
  • Collaborate with the Director and other coordinators to coordinate pre-semester and semester-long training for all peer educators at the Learning Resources Center and maintain the Supplemental Learning training manual and training materials.
  • Collaborate with the LRC team in the development of plans for program expansion into new courses while simultaneously sustaining the current scope of offered courses.
  • Assist the Director with ongoing development of the Academic Support Programs at the LRC.
  • Develop and conduct feedback evaluation processes with student staff, determine peer educator schedules, coordinate payroll, help market the programs and update the services website.
  • Maintain program data in the Inspire/Civitas appointment system.
  • Collect and analyze data for program improvement, while also maintaining the LRC's international tutor training program certification through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA), and/or other appropriate certifications.
  • Stay current with science of learning research, the scholarship of teaching and learning, universal design principles, learning technology, and other relevant areas.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with the Center for Identity and Inclusion, Disability Resources Office, TRIO and McNair programs, First Year-Experiences, Veteran Student Services, Office of International Affairs, Student Success initiatives, Math and Stats Support, and Writing Center and other partner campus offices to provide a strong network of support for undergraduate students.
  • Other duties as assigned.
