Position Announcement

The UCCU Center at Utah Valley University is looking for a full - time Lead in the Custodial Department. We will provide on-the-job training. Come work in a fast-paced pace, exciting environment that includes working concerts, trade shows, Athletics events, tournaments, and more. Must be willing to work nights and weekends when needed.

Summary of Responsibilities

Supervises and trains full-time, part-time and temporary custodial personnel in all custodial operations.
Trains and ensures safety in working with hazardous chemicals, cleanup of body fluids, ladders, lifts and other equipment.
Adheres to department cleaning, lock-up/un-locking, furniture set-up deadlines in order to provide efficiency and good quality.
Maintains inventory and issues supplies to custodians.
Helps the campus and facilities maintain a good public image by providing a safe, clean, comfortable environment conducive to learning for students, visitors and employees.
Performs and ensures the daily maintenance and cleanliness of custodial equipment.
Reports building and equipment repair needs to the Custodial Supervisor.
Assumes duties of custodian, other leads and some duties of the custodial supervisors in their absence.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma from a standard high school or the equivalent and any combination of post high school education and/or directly related full-time experience to the summary of duties totaling six months is required.

Preferred Qualifications
Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent AND any combination of post high school and/or full-time paid experience related to the summary of duties, totaling one year.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

Knowledge

Knowledge of training in the proper use of hazardous chemicals and products.
Knowledge of body fluid cleanup and proper protection.
Knowledge of proper radio communications.
Knowledge of pest control.
Knowledge of all floor types such as terrazo, cement, wood, vinyl, corry and ceramic tile as well as carpet fibers, weaves and backings.
Knowledge of waxes/polishes, acids, other chemicals, buffers, extractors, vacuums and scrubbers.
Knowledge of current cleaning techniques and proper cleaning chemicals.
Knowledge of general maintenance operations.

Skills

Skill in the use of proper custodial and maintenance techniques.
Skill supervising, training and developing employees.
Skill in effective communication, problem-solving and decision-making.

Abilities

Ability to supervise and provide on-the-job training.
Ability to perform heavy lifting with the ability to expend arduous physical effort and to work in conditions that may involve some hazards and considerable discomforts.
