FULL TIME; PARTIAL YEAR CAREER
Minimum Starting Salary: $19.61/hourly.
A partial-year career appointment is established to accommodate foreseeable seasonal fluctuations in staffing, operational, or other needs and contains regularly scheduled furlough periods during which the incumbent remains an employee and retains health benefits, but is not at work.

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Clinical Operations Coordinator for Radiology and Clinical Support Services, the Medical Assistant performs a wide variety of patient care support services. The job requires the ability to work with a variety of clinicians with different styles and requirements. The ability to be flexible, maintain a professional demeanor, work closely with many people, and multi-task are critical components. In a fast paced environment with many direct patient care duties as well as clerical duties, attention to detail is essential. Working with ill students and concerned parents requires empathy and understanding. Patient confidentiality in all verbal and written communications is paramount. The critical thinking ability to recognize and respond to emergencies is required.

The Medical Assistant will:

Effectively perform multiple tasks such as simultaneously supporting several clinicians, monitoring patients, and managing phones and paperwork

Utilize tact, discretion and confidentiality in all communications with staff, students, families, and outside medical services

Identify self by name and title in all communication

Appropriately refer issues beyond scope of practice to clinical or supervisory personnel

Communicate issues of concern from patient or family to clinician

Maintain current CPR card and be able to recognize and respond to an emergency as appropriate per facility policy and training.

This position requires a current Medical Assistant (MA) certification recognized by the Medical Board of California. All applicants selected for interview will be required to produce a copy of the MA certification from one of these certifying agencies: the California Certifying Board for Medical Assistants (CCBMA), the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or the American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Qualifications include:

Graduation from Medical Assisting program and/or equivalent training and experience

Knowledge of medical office procedures and equipment

Knowledge of medical terminology

Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies within the Medical Assistant scope of practice

Experience in administering injections
