Job Summary: Under general oversight from the Mortuary Science program coordinator, this faculty member will teach various Mortuary Science evening/day classes which may include oversight for students in fieldwork settings. This job may require participating in marketing for the program with a need to be available on weekends.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Prepare and teach classes in the Mortuary Science program.

2. Participate in program activities to maintain accreditation standards.

3. Keep accurate classroom records.

4. Distribute and adhere to well-organized and appropriately detailed course outlines and syllabi.

5. Innovate the delivery and design of Mortuary Science courses.

6. Meet college and department deadlines, and evaluate student work in a timely manner including submitting grades on time.

7. Demonstrate professional development, and contributions in funeral service.

8. Be technology literate, and participate in the use of instructional technology including the use of computers and multi-media in lectures, laboratories, and distant learning environments.

9. Attend new faculty orientation sessions, and complete mandatory trainings.

10. Coordinate student ADA accommodation requests following college policy and procedures.

11. Demonstrate and support professional commitment to the program, division, school, and the colleges mission and values.

12. Participate in marketing events for the Mortuary Science program.

13. Accept other duties as assigned.1. Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization2. Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators3. Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments4. Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards5. Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades6. Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance7. Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines8. Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment9. Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy10. Maintains professional and collegial behavior11. Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 days)12. Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure13. Completes all required employee trainings14. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines15. Provides ADA accommodations as requested16. Other job related duties as needed

Minimum Qualifications: 1. Breadth of knowledge and experience in the field of funeral service.

2. Sufficient specialized training and experience in funeral service practice to enable him/her to give proper instruction.

3. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team setting.

4. Ability to follows SLCC policies and procedures.

5. Licensed in the state of Utah as a funeral service director.

6. Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts from a regionally accredited college or university to teach didactic sections.

7. Graduate from an ABFSE accredited institution of funeral service education or its equivalent.

8. Minimum one year experience as a licensed funeral director/embalmer.

Preferred Qualifications: 1. Mortuary Science teaching experience with students in a higher education institution (as adjunct or full-time) in the classroom or fieldwork placement.2. At least five years experience working in a funeral home environment as a funeral director/embalmer.3. Knowledge of curriculum development, assessments, clinical education and effective classroom management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 1. Breadth of knowledge and experience in the field of funeral service.2. Technical or educational knowledge in the area of the curriculum requested to the teach area.
