General: The Department of Physical Therapy at California State University, Fresno is accepting applications for one tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor or the Associate Professor rank. The successful candidate will conduct clinical research, teach anatomy, and have expertise in at least one of the following areas: neuroanatomy, applied pathophysiology, prosthetics and orthotics, radiology, and clinical sciences. The ability to oversee our Anatomy Cadaver Laboratory is desirable. Additional responsibilities include scholarly activities, advising students, student doctoral project supervision, curriculum development, collaborative research, service at all levels of the university, and community outreach. Specific assignments are dependent on departmental needs and the background of the individual.

Qualifications:

Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):

  1. An earned doctorate in Physical Therapy (Ph.D., EdD, DSc) or other closely related disciplines is required, OR
    Post-professional DPT from an accredited institution, with evidence of clinical excellence in desired clinical teaching areas.
  2. Candidates without a PT license but an earned doctorate (Ph.D. or DSc) in anatomy and/or biomechanics will also be considered.
  3. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, for an appointment, the doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2019.

Required Experience:

  1. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  2. Evidence of success in research and teaching expertise in anatomy and at least one of the following areas: neuroanatomy, applied pathophysiology, prosthetics and orthotics, radiology, and clinical sciences;
  3. Demonstrated ability to utilize technology to enhance instruction and student learning.

Preferred Experience:

  1. A minimum of three years of clinical experience in physical therapy practice;
  2. Evidence of experience attracting external funding;
  3. Active participation or leadership roles within the profession of Physical Therapy or relevant professional organizations;
  4. Experience teaching using current methodologies, including online and hybrid environments, tablet enhanced instruction, and flipped classroom methodologies;
  5. Experience or leadership in outcomes assessment and service learning; and
  6. Leadership roles in a clinic or research setting.

About the College and Department:

The Department of Physical Therapy at Fresno State has a well-established and respected Doctoral program. Our faculty members have diverse clinical and research expertise across the lifespan, including pediatric, adolescent, and aging populations of the culturally diverse Central Valley. Faculty research initiatives are broad and collaborative with faculty from across the University, including kinesiology, nursing, public health, child and family services, engineering and communicative disorders. In addition to grant support, faculty have received both assigned time and funding through Chancellor, Provost, and College Awards (details at http://www.fresnostate.edu/chhs/physical-therapy/ ). Faculty research and faculty-led student projects have won numerous awards over the last several years.

Department classrooms and laboratories include state-of-the-art equipment to support both teaching and research, including two research laboratories; one known as the Gait Analysis Movement Evaluation (GAME) laboratory and the other is a new Infant Motor Perceptual laboratory. The GAME lab is currently equipped to do both Biomechanical research with an Optotrak Camera System, Kistler Force Plates, Noraxon EMG System, Zeno Mat, CMI Humac Isokinetic Dynamometer; as well as physiological research with the Montara EKG Treadmill, TrueOne Metabolic Measurement System, Spirometer and GE Logiq-e Ultrasound.

We have two on-site clinics (Gait, Balance & Mobility Center and Musculoskeletal Care Clinic) that provide a unique opportunity for our graduate PT students to integrate classroom teaching into patient care early on in the curriculum. The program also has a state of the art human cadaver laboratory with a filtered ventilation system an overhead dissecting camera system. Our faculty also have access to the Human Performance Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology and to the Department of Nursing's Knorr Patient Simulation Lab. In Fall 2015 the Department made its new home in a state-of-the-art new building, which expanded facilities to include two additional large teaching laboratories, as well as new faculty offices, and student conference spaces. The College of Health and Human Services (www.fresnostate.edu/chhs/) is dedicated to professional education, research, and regional leadership and has developed a number of interdisciplinary research units that promote faculty and student engagement with the community to address regional needs in health policy, disabilities, sports medicine, children and healthy aging.
