Key Responsibilities:

Join the Facilities Management Department on the University of Colorado Denver Campus as Pipe Mechanical Trades I (Shift). This is a full-time state classified position. The Pipe/Mechanical Trades I position: Performs shift work, to support 24 hours a day, 7 days-a-week operation. You will perform regular maintenance on HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and utility systems, interior finishes, and appliances and coordinate work with journey level technicians and contractors. You will record issues and make work reports via email, log your work in CMMS and monitor building systems in BAS and perform various other duties and tasks as required. Subject to mandatory call-in for snow removal services.

This is an evening second shift and weekend shift position. Hours are Tuesday through Friday 12:30pm to 8:30pm and Saturday 7:30am to 4:00pm


  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance as assigned.
  • Maintain facility safety with snow removal, lighting, and wayfinding signage.
  • Maintain reports and inventory via electronic records and database.
  • Operate university vehicles to transport necessary tools/equipment to work sites.
  • Respond to alarms/emergencies and make resolution. Set priorities based on urgency.
  • Make necessary changes in BAS to various building systems operating parameters.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve team performance.
  • Work closely with the supervisor to implement leadership directives.
  • Participate in after-hours call-back rotation.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Denver, Colorado.

Hybrid - this role is not eligible for a hybrid schedule. Participant is expected to be onsite 5 days per week.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Two years of progressively responsible residential or office building maintenance experience, including minor repairs to HVAC, electrical, lighting, and plumbing systems and indoor finishes.

  • Must be willing to work the second shift Tuesday through Friday 12:30am to 8:30pm and the weekend shift, Saturday 7:30am to 4:00pm. Subject to on-call 24/7. Work overtime when needed to support the operation.

NOTE: This position has been designated as essential personnel, and will be required to respond to emergencies as needed. Position may also be required to stay late, come in early, or cover shifts as needed. Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $3,851 - $4,662 per month.

This position qualifies for shift differential.
  • Second shift differential - Additional differential of .075 (7.5%) times annualized hourly rate. Shall be paid for all hours worked when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
  • Third shift differential - Additional differential of .14 (14%) times annualized hourly rate. Shall be paid for all hours worked when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
  • Weekend shift differential - Additional differential of .20 (20%) times annualized hourly rate. Shall be paid for all hours worked when more than half of the scheduled shift hours fall on a weekend shift that starts at 4 p.m. Friday evening through 6 a.m. Monday

This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
