Position Summary:
Assist with University of Idaho Extension urban horticulture diagnostic services, public outreach, and volunteer management in Canyon County.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates level degree in Applied Horticulture Technology or closely related discipline.
  • Experience with basic horticulture, plant pathology and entomology; plant diseases, insects, soils, climate, and landscape materials of Southern Idaho.
  • Experience with customer service.
  • Experience working with youth or adults in educational or volunteer settings.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) to enter and retrieve information.
  • Experience answering a business telephone.
  • Experience working with people of all ages from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience working as a member of a professional team as well as working independently.
  • Attend additional training to pursue certification and licensing as a Certified Nursery Technician/Diagnostician and Statewide Pesticide Consultant as needed to enhance position.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in Horticulture, Plant Science or closely related discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with University of Idaho Extension; UI Master Gardener Program or 4-H.
  • Ability to speak and write Spanish.
  • Certification as an Idaho Master Gardener; Certification as a Nursery Technician/Diagnostician; Personal or Professional Pesticide Applicators License or Statewide Pesticide Consultants License.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 30 pounds.
  • Must provide own transportation for travel to other work sites. Mileage will be reimbursed when personal vehicle is used and pre-approved by supervisor.
