Job Summary:

Nature of Work

The DiGregorio lab is seeking to hire a Research Associate (RA). The DiGregorio Lab focuses on making brain activity measurements from extracted tissue and awake behaving rodents. This is a supervised position so the candidate will need to receive, and act on, detailed instructions from the manager. However, for routine tasks, the incumbent is expected to work independently. The position requires that the candidate exhibit management and organizational skills. Specifically, the candidate will manage lab supplies, lab operations, and animal colonies. The candidate will perform independent research and experiment projects that may include surgeries on mice, training mice for behavior experiments, and the use of recording techniques to make detailed observations. The candidate will also be responsible for some data analysis and involved in the summarization and communication of results/findings.

Reports to Dr. David DiGregorio

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Mouse colony maintenance (coordinating weaning, breeding, and crosses).
  • Inventory oversight of lab consumables, including ensuring reagents are stocked and reordered when necessary.
  • Ordering and maintaining an inventory of common lab supplies.
  • Maintaining common lab equipment and ensuring all lab members have access to
  • Modifying and updating IACUC protocols, training documentation, SOPs, and EH&S compliance documentation.
  • Ensuring that new lab members receive all required training and access privileges.
  • Coordinate/conducting mouse surgeries and experiments.
  • Collecting and analyzing experiment data.
  • Presenting results and findings through written and oral presentations, such as journal articles, conference presentations, or seminars.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Education: PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology, Neuroscience, or related field.
  • 4 years of experience in wet-lab research.
  • 3 years of experience in animal techniques and managing and writing IACUC protocols.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience conducting mouse surgeries in systems neuroscience.
  • Experience with animal colony management.
  • Five (5) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$63,000 - $70,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
