Job Summary
Highly motivated individual sought for a Research Laboratory Specialist Associate position in a joint research laboratory at the Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department and the Neurosurgery Department at the University of Michigan. Our lab focuses research on developing novel ultrasound therapy for neurological, oncological, and vascular applications. The selected candidate will work closely with the two PI's, one at BME and one at Neurosurgery, to manage the lab and coordinate daily laboratory operations.

NOTE: This is a one year term-limited position with the possibiity of extension based upon need and funding.

Responsibilities*
  • Responsible for daily laboratory operations, including ordering/inventory, ensuring that the lab has updated procedural approval and is in compliance with regulations (IACUC, ULAM, EHS), preparing animal protocols, hazardous waste disposal, harvesting tissue samples from the animals, and obtaining tissue samples from the hospital.
  • Handle controlled drugs and maintain records.
  • Act as the lab liaison with between BME and Neurosurgery departments; Coordinate multidisciplinary meetings; Meet with the PI's once a month to provide update and discuss opportunities of improvement; Attend Neurosurgical tumor board meetings as necessary.
  • Facilitate research of the faculty and students working in the lab; Facilitate constructions of lab equipment; Assist in development and design of research projects and implement experimental plans; Participate in research/data analysis, and suggest future improvements in data measurement

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in a biological, engineering, or veterinary science.
  • Experience writing and following SOPs.
  • Exceptional work ethic.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to think and work independently.
  • Ability to assess and remedy difficult problems and situations quickly and efficiently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work well alone as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in physical, hands on environment.
