Temporary Part-Time Community Program Specialist

Job Summary:

HR Options is looking to fill a temporary part-time Community Program Specialist position within the McCarthy Center for Public Services and the Common Good, located at the University of San Francisco (USF) .

Under the general supervision of the Director of Community-Engaged Learning, the Program Specialist is responsible for the planning and implementation of the Community Empowerment Activists (CEA) program, providing administrative and logistical support for the Esther Madriz Diversity Scholars program, supporting community engagement initiatives at the McCarthy Center, and maintaining community partnerships with Bay Area nonprofit organizations.

Job Responsibilities:

Community Empowerment Activists Program (CEA)

Direct CEA program, including recruiting, hiring, training, and overseeing students and determining placements in consultation with Director of Community-Engaged Learning;

Design, facilitate, and implement curriculum, including content on community-engaged learning pedagogy, social justice leadership, and professional development;

Provide individual supervision, advising, and mentorship to students;

Collaborate with program stakeholders to develop program content, activities, outcomes, and assessment; and

Maintain relationships with CEA host organizations and supervisors.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors degree or equivalent required, Masters degree preferred.
Experience working in higher education and/or with a community based non-profit organization required.
Candidate must have knowledge of and capacity to articulate and teach about the value of community-engaged learning in higher education, as well as cultural competence and cultural humility to work with students, community partners, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences.
Candidate must be able to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with USF administrators, faculty, students, private and public agencies and others; demonstrate general knowledge and understanding of budgets, grants and fiscal management; and possess the ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with diverse populations in an urban, multicultural environment.
Familiarity with SF community-based organizations preferred.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to multitask are required.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Contribute programmatic support as needed for McCarthy Center public service and service-learning programs in consultation with McCarthy Center staff;

Adapt and implement in-class service-learning orientations and reflections including interactive dialogues to assist students in connecting service to social issues, discussing issues of power, privilege and identity, highlighting the mission of the McCarthy Center, and underscoring the mission of the University;

Support the design and implementation of assessment of student learning to inform McCarthy Center practices, resources, and trainings; and

Other duties as assigned.
